    My issue with JL Audio:

    * At one time - JL set a standard. They used to do a 90 day warantee unless a dealer did the box. This gave JL a decent name due to they were put ...at one time...into proper enclosures and sounded right.
    * Then they laxed on that...and every newb in town was slappin some JL subs in swiss cheese boxes and sounded like garbage.
Glad to see JL has once again gone back to the 90 day!
    * I still believe- that there are as many subs that are = too or better then JL subs (= to or less price also)... JL is not the end all of the sub community.
    * Its good too see that some have brand loyalty...just JL folks seem a bit mor arragant than others some time.

Now whats this thing On audiofiles agains rear fill? Is this a for rear fill or against?

No, I think he got the point. But, what about us (well, people like him...lol) who know how to do a good install, want to do it themselves, but then again don't wan tot because it'd void the warranty.....

Yeah, I hate the idea of being forced to pay for installation when not only am able to do it but its half the fun!

Its like car alarms these days. You cant buy one without having to have it installed. Even if you can talk a shop into selling it to you without installation you get zero warranty.

If you hook it up and it doesnt work, youre SOL!

Im with ya too my brotha.

Sucks tho that virtually all companies do that. There are a lot of speakers out there with 3 year warranties as long as you have them installed. Do the work yourself and youre down to a piddly year.

Sucks that it has to be that way. I can see the point of view of the companies that do that though. It's probably cheaper for them in the long run, so they don't have to replace amps under warranty because some idiot wired his + and - together into some .5 ohm load. Least they're guaranteed that it really was the amp at fault and not the installer when their amps are installed professionally. On the other hand, it sucks for the people that know what they're doing. I can install my own stuff just fine, but since I'm not a "professional" I get the shorter warranty.

Personally... If you do things right...warranty should not be an issue. IF the product is defective-within 90 days you will find out.

yeah..it would be nice to have a 3 yr warranty on all products...but from a business standpoint...it isn't going to happen.

Well take the alarm issue. I talked Car Tunes into selling me one for my '00 Ram and installed it myself. When I did, the ignition kill wouldnt work. I asuume the relay was bad. I tried to exchange the NEXT DAY and they would have none of it.

It sucks but next time I buy an alarm I will give in and let them install it.

You also have to realize....that for every 1 person who can install- there is probably 50 who think they can :)

Most of the shops I buy from around here know me and I would not have that problem. If they dont know you....we cant really blame them....can we. You probably didnt do anything wrong- but unfortunatly- they probably have had issues in the past .

Won't work if the amp is regulated. I know JL has a line of amps that is unregulated but they are big dollar items if I remember correctly. Either that or it's the real cheapy line. The regulated amps will put out the 500 watts all the time, no matter what the gain setting is. Gain is only there to control input signal strength and really isn't a good way to make your system louder. You can have signal clipping just as much as you can have amplifier clipping. Anyway, if the amp is a regulated JL amp, set the gain where ever you want, you'll just be pushing a weaker input signal through an output circuit that is pushing 500 watts of power. It'd be like using the transistor radio from Gilligan's Island to blow your speakers.
