Rattle in speaker cabinet

When I recently moved my CS400 center speaker, it tilted and sounded like a part had broken loose and was rattling around inside.

The speaker is still under warranty so I am leary of attempting any work myself.

What does Polk recommend?

Many thanks!

Personally, I would unscrew the speaker terminal and dump out the 'rattle'. This operation shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Could it just be a wire inside that hit the side of the cabnet? What exactly do you mean it tilted?

Thanks for the replies. Polk responded and said the warranty is not voided so it's OK for me to open it up.

By tilting, I titlted the speaker when carrying it. Sorry, I should have been clearer on that.

This is getting interesting. Last night when I was putting the CS400 on my workbench I gave it a good tilt and for lack of a better explination, it sounds like a dozen beads of soder are loose inside.

The speaker panel uses hex screws and wouldn't 'ya know it the size I need is missing from my set. Oh well, now I have a good excuse to buy a new set.

I'll update this thread after I take a look inside. Hopefully tonight.

Mexico was messy. One of the reasons production moved to China...

Opened the speaker this morning and here's what I found: (drum roll please)

82 Nestle Toll House Chocolate Morsels
    6 Sunflower seeds
Enough bird seed to require vacuuming.

I've had the system in my basement and it sure looks like some mice were making it their stash box. This is surprising as the cats have been vigilant with mouse control. They actually had morsels stuffed into the insulation! Note- I live "out in the sticks" and "visitors" are somewhat a way of life. . .which is where the cats come in.

Problem solved. Faith in Polk speakers returned to 100%.:D

    Thanks to all who replied!

It would have to be mice at the factory it was assembled at, unless your missing hex wrench......

I heard a rattle in of the SDA 1C's I just pickup up. I took out the drivers and found a pioneer surround speaker up behind the tweeters. I new they were in rough shape, but I guess I freaked the kid out when I said I wanted to hear them. I just wish he didn't damaged two of the surrounds and cut the termials off the wires to hook it up. I just love Ebay!

I got a feeling the mouse made its way through the port...

I feel sorry for you SVS owners with the gigantic 3" ports ;) - I dunno, a 10hz test tone at reference level would solve that though...haha
