Then that would indicate an inconsistency in our views instead of proving that this game really isn't all that bad......

Maybe I'm alone in my thinking here, but there are just some places that you just don't go.

    Examples,

You don't tell tell the wife "yes dear, those pants do make your butt look big."

You don't tell your boss he's a d!ck regardless of how big of a d!ck he is, or how bad he needs one.

You don't flip off a cop.

You don't nail your best friends girl friend.

    etc etc etc

Some things are just "off limits". You know, a no-no. I think this game falls into that area. Some things just shouldn't be. Just like there should never be a game about gunning down children on a playground.

FPS of all kinds are acceptable, if just for entertainment , but only to a point. It is the subject of this game that makes it so appalling. It spins off of a national tragedy, and for me, it is on the same level of a flight simulator where the object of the game is to fly an airliner into a pair of occupied sky-scrapers. I am sure we could all be in agreement that a game like THAT would be over the top.

The problem with that assumption is that some of the people arguing from a mainly emotional stance seem to think I find nothing wrong with the game. When I say "What's so morally different here that hasn't been done elsewhere?" they see red and jump to conclusions. It's part of why I don't take them seriously, they don't seem able to stop and think about it... they simply accuse me of a lack of rational thinking myself (ironic really). I've never said the game isn't bad. I've simply pointed out the inconsistency in some peoples views about it compared to other things.

But when one of the television networks makes a 'made for television movie' about it, are all the same people going to be outraged? They (the networks) might be responsible enough to not touch this one, but there's no way in hell I'd put money on it.

Now, a few of you can say "That's different!" because it's a movie and not a game... but I don't think it is. They are profiting (and that's what they do it for... the profit) off of a tragedy.

I agree, they probably will make a movie. But, if such a movie were for educational and informative purposes, it would likely be morally acceptable. However, if such a movie were made to sensationalize the death, destruction, sorrow, and loss, of a nation in grieving, it would reviled.

Good thing you put the bad guy in apostrophe. Playing a WWII game, it doesn't matter which side you're on, the enemy is the 'bad guy'. In this case the 'bad guys' would be the allies. I have no problem shooting down a fictional person in virtual environment, whether it is US Army Captain or Schutzstaffel soldier.

When you get to real persons it's a different story regardless of who the person is.

You don't? what if you have absolutely no choice? How about your best friend's mother?

on another note - this game is ****.. but being a senior in HS it's obvious I wasn't alive at the time. In a class required for graduation we talked about JFK for about a week. That week consisted heavily of watching the Zapruder Film over and over... I almost removed myself from class because all we do anymore is glorify someone's death then give the assassin more publicity.

The people my age don't say.. "that's really sad//unfortunate" they all just want to know why Jacqueline climbs onto the trunk. when you tell them why they just become more attached to the gore.

there is nothing educational for the general audience about watching the Zapruder film and or recreating the event.

Besides making $ off of a tragedy, one of the creator's motives is to disprove the Warren Commission (yes I know, many have tried to disprove it in the past). BUT, they are going so far as to offer a minimun of $10K reward (max $100K) for anyone who can match what the Warren Commission claimed happened. Prize fund is raised by people purchasing the simulator.
