What is the driver budget? An Adire Koda 8 has a ton of displacement and a low Vas and Fs. One good driver may end up being not much more than multiple cheap drivers and PRs. Check out this driver aswell: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=264-832

My good buddy Russ is hooking me up with drivers! I like the overall design of this, it is different...will be interesting to see how it will perform...

We were originally going to go with a single Dayton 10"...

    Eh...

Might paint it in the next few days...

But I dont want to wrap it in cloth till I get the drivers to make sure they fit, etc - kinda hard to trim something up that is cloth! ;)

Yep. Looks good. The Black Lab project was very nice too, BTW.

I think you're better at building cabinets than I am. I need a table saw, since I don't think I could cut a straight line to save my life!

    Hehe...

    Thanks...

I personally am not THAT great on a tablesaw - well depends on the overal size of the wood. That subwoofer went through ALOT of sanding considering it is 16 pieces of wood joined together! :D

2.5mm xmax on those drivers. Not sure how this one's going to work out but hopefully it slams! :D

Slams!! As in the voice coil bobbin hitting the bottom of the gap?

    Heh heh.... J/K:D

I think it's an interesting project. Finding out what will happen is half the fun.

Don't need a high xmax on the active drivers, this one's 'fluid coupled' to a passive radiator.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Since air is trapped inside the enclosure, movement of the cones of the active drivers is going to cause movement of the PR. They're coupled. The PR damps the motion of the active driver cones. A port does much the same thing, AT the resonance frequency, but since air is not actually trapped in the enclosure, there's less control overall. The damping property is only effective at the port resonance frequency, and is also affected by things like air velocity in the port. A PR system is nice because it gives you most of the same benefits of a ported system without most of the drawbacks. That may not be the best explanation, but it's 12:00AM and I'm half asleep...

How are the two active drivers going to be wired? Dual coils in series, then the two drivers in parallel? I don't think you'll run into excursion problems, as long as you tune the PR properly and don't get crazy with the bass boost.. I'm anxious to hear your impression of how it sounds.

    Jason

And another thing, Xmax and Xmech are not always the same thing. A lot of drivers can safely exceed their Xmax by a couple of mm.

Trey, did you forget to put newspaper or some kind of layer underneath the speaker cabinet when you pain it? How are you going to clean up the pain on the garage floor?

    One day, some day soon...

I will borrow someones pressure washer and clean it along with the driveway (which has never been pressure washed)

Our garage is sealed off and is pretty much a mess either way, so it dosnt really matter, Mom dosnt care...

I made her a gate the other day for the porch on the garage, dosnt look purdy, but it works :)

I just cut the last 2 holes for my subwoofer project...

Amazingly - these cuts are much more accurate than my first 2 cuts - maybe because this is the 5th and 6th time I have cut this dimension...

I've been busting my **** as well on my line arrays. Just need to cut the baffle holes, paint them, and mount the drivers. I'm hoping to have them done in the next 7 days. Everything is going great so far. I'm going to make a webpage with pictures of the whole construction etc. so you guys can check them out.

It's funny how DIY looks so easy until you do it. I cut one of my caps too short and now I have to make do with it.:( But that's half the fun of DIY, making it! :) BTW, the NSBs went on sale again...
