Infrared to RF converters

I'm in need of your help.
All my 2 channel equipment is located in the basement. I have no
equipment except speakers in my 2 channel room. All the equipment is
remotely controlled with the two **** radio shack pyramids. They convert
the infrared to RF and back to infrared. They are very sensitive to position
and who knows what. They don't work 100% of the time. I just installed revox
tuner in the basement and this unit only works with the remote commands 50%
of the time with the RS pyramids. This is driving me crazy.
I have a sony cd player in the basement that works fine with the RS
pyramids. The Revox B160 tuner can't be controlled with the RS pyramids in
the basement. I get a very weak signal to the RS receiver pyramid using the
B160 remote, but the sony signal to the RS receiver is strong. Strong and
weak signals are measured by the amount of light emitted from the RS
receiver.
What can I do?
Do you know of any product that works better than the RS pyramids?
Frustrated Peter
I'm ready to get my hammer out and adjust these RS pyrimads permanently.

Well I have learned a few more facts. It appears that some IF remotes emit
different frequency ranges. And that the IR repeaters also have limits on
the frequency range they will repeat.
This Revox unit from 1988 must use a remote with non compatible frequencies
with the RS repeater.
There are hard wired repeaters on the market. The remote sends IR to
receiver, receiver is hard wired to box and box is hard wired to multiple
emitters.
Do you think the hard wired repeaters would work with the Revox tuner
remote.
What questions to I ask the manufacture of these repeaters in order to avoid
buying and returning?
Thanks for any help.

bz,
I've used Xantech hard wired IR repeaters for years. Work great...
http://www.xantech.com/
Click on "Products" then "Info by Category" then scroll down until you see "IR RECEIVERS" and "291-KIT HIDDEN LINKTM KIT". This set up would stand alone without the Rotel.
You can also buy "EMITTERS" by themselves. Whether their plugs would fit your Revox or not, I can't say.More later,
Tour...
