Pioneer Elite DV-47A

Well, I went to an audio store today I haven't been to in quite a while. I browsed through the expensive Paradigms and B&W speakers while the guy was helping someone else. After that, I asked him about a DVD/CD player. I told him that I wanted something that would be able to play DVD, SACD, DVD-Audio, & VCD. He told me about a Pioneer Elite DV-47A that he has that would do all that. I explained also that I'm more (much more) intereseted in music than video. I *think* he said the DV-47A is discontinued, and his is a demo (that looks very clean) that he'd give me for $450.

Now, I've never been a fan of Pinoeer Elite, simply because of the 'Pioneer' written right before that 'Elite'. But, I've heard quite a bit of praise for the stuff here on the forum. I haven't looked it up yet to find the specs, but from what I know, this could be a really good deal.

So, just lemme know about Pioneer Elite in general and then about this particular player (DV-47A). I'd really appreciate any suggestions/advice!!

Thanks!!

I've got one and I love it for its musical qualities. This was THE universal player to get when it first came out. Rave reviews!! Video quality is great, but it does have the Chroma Bug.

What, exactly, is the chroma bug?

    Pioneer Elite is SOLID.

Period, they should have just gotten rid of the Pioneer and just put ELITE or just use their Car Audio name, Premeir...

Because they are solid products, period and they look darn good too!

    Get it!

So, do y'all think this would be a much better purchase than the Yamaha DVD-S1500?

If ya know a reason I shouldn't get this Pioneer Elite DV-47A, speak now or forever hold your peace!! lol

    Thanks!!

I also own the dv47a and I love it. I paid alot more then your about 2.. yes that means just go buy it and enjoy all that it offers.

I have mine running in progressive and it looks killer. The only player ai would take over it in the same price range when new is the new dv59avi. I'm actually planning on picking one up in the near future.

mantis, how much is that new one you just mentioned? You said it's in the price range; MSRP range? Or comparable to the price I'd be paying for the DV-47A?

    Thanks.

As far as video is concerned I'm holding myself for a HD-DVD player. For music, I'm a 2-ch listener so I really don't care about DVD-A and SACD at all. I'm planning to invest on a quality CD player. Universal players are like buying a A/V receiver and dedicated CD player is like buying separates. Currently I'm using a Toshiba SD-3109 as a DVD/CD player which is a 5 year and 3 months old but still works like a brand new. I'll buy the HD-DVD player for DVDs and and CD player for music in future. I think standalone CD players sound better than a DVD and universal players.

If I plan to get a CD player I'll get the Arcam Diva CD73t which has 24/192 Wolfson DACs, Torroidal Transformer, Detachable IEC power cord. Metal chasis. Excellent reviews.

    Love it!

    Stunning CD player. ;)

Whoa Nelly!!! 2 channel listening is all well and good, but don't discount DVD-A and SACD. I've got quite a few that have a Hi-Rez 2 channel track that will knock your socks off. Hi-Rez is not a multichannel only ballgame. If your staying away fromthese formats for that reason, your really missing out on some incredible sound.

The Pioneer Elite dv59avi goes for around 1200.00. This is where the dv47a was when it came out years ago.

I bought the dv47a the day it came in. I own the first one out.

The dv59avi is the next level of performance or actually 2 levels up.Pioneer released a better version of the dv47a the dv47ai which has a new menu system and no cromo bug. New faceplate as well. You culd find one for 500.00 pn audiogon or videogon, ebay...

All right; thanks for all the information. I really don't think the chroma bug will be problem for me as who knows what kind of fomats will be out when I get serious about video. I'm gonna see if I can't go to another store and check out the Yamaha DVD-S1500 one more time before I decide on the Pioneer, though I'm heavily leaning on the Pioneer.

And, those who own a DV-47a, how do you like the remote?

    Thanks.

OH you had to ask about the remote, It SUCKS!!!! Getting from one place to another with that stupid little button gets on my last nerve! I usually don't have any problems with remotes but this one gets on my last nerve!

I'll take their word for it having the chroma bug, but let me say this, I have one and it had this same exact problem. Once I turned off the auto film detection it went away. (at least as far as I can see).

BTW, I didn't care for the DV47Ai too much for 2 channel but then again, I'm too picky for my own good. It takes a LOT to do better and I wouldn't let my opinion or past posts make you doubt the purchase. I actually don't mind the remote.
