My Father-in-Law, Jim, is undergoing double by-pass (at least) surgery tomorrow morning. He's in very good hands as Dr. Denton Cooley is doing the procedure, but still every little bit helps.

Jim is a very righteous individual and just a very nice man. Although it is not his profession, he is an ordained Minister. He presided over my wife's and my wedding last year.

Anyway, would appreciate any good thoughts you can send Jim's way...

Best wishes, and on a positive note: Bypass surgery usually results in a very revitalized feeling after recovery. This is due to the long, slow process of degradation of energy levels that people experience when they are in need of bypass surgery.

It equates to a tune-up for the heart! Many people speak of feeling 20 yrs younger after by-pass surgery...23 years ago my Grandma had quadruple-bypass surgery, today she is 87 and still honry as hell.

Again, best wishes for a speedy recovery Jimbo!

    Thanks again guys...

Ended up being a triple bypass...

Surgery went well. Took right around three hours. Dr. Cooley was very pleased.

Jim is still in ICU, heavily sedated, intubated and under constant observation (all normal at this point).

    Thanks yet again...

Jim, continues to improve. He's off of the breathing tube (pulled sometime last night) and took in a little solid food today. Leakage has esentially stopped (one of the other things I did not know about bypasses... the new connections are not "blood-tight"). His heartbeat is slightly irregular (again, not unusual) and they are medicating him for that.

Dr. Cooley gave him the once over this AM and signed off on his being moved from ICU.

Houston's St. Luke's Hospital had been perfect until...

The A$$hole caridologist, a staffer not on Cooley's team, that has to provide sig #2 to have Jim moved out of ICU left for a "long weekend" before reviewing Jim's echocardiogram (sp?) test results or speaking to Jim and family.

Now Jim is convinced he is dieing... far from the truth, but there is a LOT of family history, including a 1st wife and a very young daughter... This after Cooley and company emphasized the mental aspect of the recovery...

But my wife is on them.. If she can't get results, the heavy artilery will be called in... yours truly... you do NOT want to piss off a Bohunk...

    Later...

EDIT: Wife just called... the Cariologist was in the hospital and will be all weekend... Turns out Jim did suffer an "attack" (as in heart) during the procedure. Degree is unknown, but does NOT appear to be life threatening. Apparently such an event is neither normal nor unusual in patients with blockage as significant as Jim had.

Move from ICU to CCU tomorrow is likely. And probably to private room Monday. And then more tests to follow...

So for now the incredible Bohunk stays in reserve as the mild mannered Dr. Tour2ma......

    Tour...

Last update, until Jim goes home...

First, an apology, I sort of left out a very important word in the last post, "Not". Jim's attack is not life threatening. Sorry if I caused any undue concern... I'll blame the alcohol...

Jim will move from ICU to CCU today. He's alert, is spending more time in a chair, the chest tubes are out... everything is going well.

Mentally he is also much improved, much brighter outlook...

Should go home mid-week or so, and I will post a short update then.

Thanks again to all. This thread has been theraputic for me, and assured the deck was stacked in Jim's favor with the Man upstairs... of that I have no doubt...

Jim is now at home resting relatively comfortably in his own bed and watching old Errol Flynn movies.

Damage from the heart attack that occurred during the procedure was deemed "minimal". So all is looking good.

Thanks to all for the prayers and/or good thoughts...
