i dont know how many of you guys have heard this, but apparently Monster sues everyone with the name Monster in it. including Monster Garage and even Sesame Street. here is a link for more details http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=214568

i read it as well as related links, and i find Monster Cable actions to be apalling. outlines exactly the nature and destructive effects of frivilous lawsuits. I for one will never buy a monster cable product again. I've never been a big fan of bullies.

my favorite is the fact that the Patent office needs a whole rooom just for Monster Cable's legal actions. it is nothing short of disgusting. am i overreacting here?

I expected to see the job search website Monster.com listed among the defendants. Seems like they would (should) be their #1 litigation target. Maybe they only like to go after small companies or individuals.

Eff Radioshack too, they sue everyone with SHACK in the company name...

When my family started our video store we had Video Shack Inc as the store name, and radioshack was going to sue us for that...

eff em, eff all those big corporate companies that are greedy to no end! (Monster, Bose, Radioshack, etc etc)

Seems about the same as the Big Music companies suing 14 year olds for copying some music, well actually maybe it is different. Our law schools are teaching this stuff and the message is it is ok to do in the name of the almighty dollar. I have used their products, I will let them know it is my right not to use them also. I might understand if someone used Monster to sell audio products but WTF............................

EXACTLY, i dont see them suing Disney or Pixar for the movie Monsters Inc (someone else pointed this out, i dont remember who). Disney makes Monster Cable look like a Mom and Pop outfit. basically they pick on the little guy. its nothing short of pathetic.

Just think how cheap those Monster F*****G cables could be without all the litigation costs built in. Hey...I don't own any MC (nor will I)...imagine that.

As for the RS bunch....BRING IT ON! I've been shack way before they got started.

Actually, they did attempt to sue Disney over Monsters Inc. I suspect they abandoned it fairly quickly as Disney appears to have gone after Monsters actual federal trademark in retaliation.

I also love how MC has a Bermuda address.....can you say "tax shelter". It's certainly not uncommon, but there's some more fuel for you.

Nice find Bonham. Noel Lee is an obnoxious businessman, but what we're seeing is just legal process here. All companies, including Polk Audio, do it to some degree or another. If Monster Cable isn't seen as making an effort to protect their trademark to the name Monster, they will lose it through dilution. They don't necessarily have to win every lawsuit. They just have to be seen as making an effort. If they want to keep using a generic name, they have to file suits. Doesn't spread any corporate goodwill though. What's surprising to me is that Noel Lee was able to trademark the generic term "Monster" in 1979 in the first place. I'm not sure why Noel Lee doesn't just use the name "Monster Cable", but on the other hand he does "own" business rights to the name "Monster" as well as "Monster Cable".

I didn't know about the Bermuda thing. That's far worse to me than overly aggressively protecting a silly name.

By the way, Candlestick Park is now known as "Monster Park" for those who haven't looked at Monster's Web site for a while.

Yeah, when they bid for Candlestick Park they talked about what a great San Francisco company they were.

I guess thats the secret to buying the naming rights to your very own stadium.

Well, instead of **** about it, I am going to profit from Monster's actions. I am going to start suing all women that have my same first name.

I am not fond of the way Monster does business either. I think Monster's retail prices are insane, and I would not pay them even if I used someone else's money. I like Monster's better cables and interconnects. I believe they are a good value for the typical 40% and sometimes 30% of retail that they sell for on the used market.

While I can understand someone not buying a product because they believe it to be inferior to similar products on the market, I do not understand not buying a product (that performs well and that you may like) simply because the company/company owner is a jerk.

Seems to be somewhat of a double standard to me. What I mean is, when I consider my CD and LP collection, I know that much, if not most, of the music I thoroughly enjoy listening to (over and over again) was produced by people who are ravenous drug addicts, vain egomaniacs, whores, ****, pedophiles, and straight out horrible human beings who practice every perversion conceived by the mind of man.

If a person/company had to be a "nice person" before I bought something from them, I probably would own next to nothing. ;)
