Pretty sure a majority of us will be picking this up tomorrow. I myself am pretty excited about this movie even though I haven't seen it yet. I love a great Vampire movie especially when it has Kate Beckinsale in it.:D Just one thing, can we try and post our reviews of the movie without pissing on other peoples feet. Seems like anymore post always end up in a pissing contest. Just my thoughts.

Gonna rent it as well. I've been looking forward to it, supposed to be way over the top and completely mindless entertainment that the critics absolutely hated.... My kinda flick!!:)

These are the movies that inspired Van Helsing. Also picked up Garfield the movie for the wife and kids that way I can watch Van Helsing by myself tonight. Look out reference level.:D And finally, I also picked up Spiderbait the cd.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

Too bad its in old plain DD 5.1, a movie like this which is full of surrounds truly deserve DD 5.1 EX & DTS ES 6.1 Discreate treatment. Screw to extras!
Samething happened to HellBoy and Underworld with plain DD 5.1 can't understand why they don't take advantage of new formats.
Oh well, I'll forced it to EX anyways.

Isn't DD5.1 EX really 6.1?

Kinda sorta, but in a roundabout way. DD5.1 ex is a matrixed 6.1, not a discrete 6.1.

Just watched it. It's OK -- that's about all I can say. However, it has the most action scenes of any movie I've ever seen. Must have cost a fortune to produce. Some of the effects were nice, too. Would have sounded awesome in DTS.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I just watched it too. I am with Early, its okay. Great action and wonderful use of surrounds. I feel this one really brought out the best in my system. Acting and plot was just so-so though. Glad I rented it.

watched it last night.. i did see it in the theater a few months back.. so I know what the movie was about already. I did purchase it..
I was very, very pleased with the picture quality.. very nice transfer.. the blacks, colors, whites and everything else in between is dead on. ha ha ha. get it, dead on?
To me... the pq is better than on most DVD movies.
did anyone else notice the picture quality?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I finally got to see this last night.
I must say, I was a little dissappointed. As far as mindless action movies go, this has to be the most mindless ever. Don't get me wrong, I love the mindless action movies, Hell Boy was cool, but after watching Van Helsing, I actually feel stupider.
The CGI effects were decent, but a little too CGI-ish. One thing I did appreciate was some of the old school special effects. The brides of Dracula flying around in a couple scenes looked like real people doing stunts (remember those?) not CGI.
I was also disappointed in the surround channels. Not much going on back there, mostly ambiance & background noise, not alot of action.
I did like the bass track. Good and tight, very articulate, not rumble jumble like alot of movies.
The plot was decent in the development, and the characters were well developed, but there could have been more overall story detail. Again, a little too mindless. The action scenes were all CGI, which IMO detracts from the story alittle.
It was without a doubt a very entertaining 2 hours, and I definitly recommend renting it. Just a bit too mindless for me.....Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo. -

Well, it is getting close to Holloween night when I traditionally dust off my Van Helsing DVD for its annual viewing. A favorite movie of mine. Has a little of everything. Maybe I'll have to pick up the Blu-ray version for this year's viewing.
