Are SDA's intentionally out of phase? Connected speaker wires to the SDA's correctly but when I used a test CD to check phase it warned me that the speakers are out of phase. So I reversed one speaker's cable, did I do the correct thing? Pls advise. thanks.

Do not reverse the speaker cables!

Yes, the SDA effect is gained by having (depending on model) some of the drivers out of phase to cancel cross talk and present true stereo sound. Throw that disc in the trash.

    I hope you didn't either.

You have the SDA CRS, right? In your case one of the tweeters is out of phase too. If you don't have the manual contact Ken at Polk and he'll send you one. It explains how they work and proper set up.

What you are experiencing may have much to do with the design. Part of the SDA design is to send a signal that is out of phase to some of the drivers relative to the other speaker and vice versa. The idea is to cancel the sounds from the left speaker heard in the right ear and vice versa. The interconnect should handle this. The design will probably wreak havoc on in/out ohase testing, but you'll know when it's right.

Did it sound/ test "correct" after switching the one speaker lead?

If it was difficult to determine phasing with a test CD, then something may be amiss with the internal wiring as Jesse mentioned. I've used Stereophiles Test CD's 2 & 3, and the phase test of SDA's is exactly as easy as non-SDA's...

Simple check is to unplug the SDA IC and retest for correct phase. If you find out that you had it right initially, but the test with the SDA in play made you make an unnecessary change, it's time to operate...

And you can not hurt anything if you accidentally wire them out-of-phase... excepting your face as you scrunch it up into a world class "WTF?" expression...
