Dual LNB/Tivo Receiver question

Am thinking about getting a directv receiver/tivo unit and had a question about the dual inputs. I currently have a dual lnb on my dish. One running too my current receiver in the living room and one running too the reciever in the bedroom. Too make the dual tuner work on the tivo unit do I have too run the lines directly from the dual lnb or can I split one line into two?

You need to buy one of the following.

A hdtv 20 inch dish which has 4 outs and 3 lnbs on it

or a multiswitch.

Buying the Hdtv 20 inch dish will set you up for the future when you go hdtv.This is the cheapest way to get another line to the Tivio.

Buying a multi switch is another way it will take the 2 lines in and power it to make 4 lines out. This will work but both feeds will have to go to the multiswitch.

I say get a new dish and have the 4 lines.After you hook up the Tivo , you will want to upgrade the other dss receiver to a tivo as well. Then my man you will be able to record 4 shows at once.

Thanks for the reply, I was looking at a triple lnb 20" dish on crutchfield but that one sounded like it was setup to take signals from 3 seperate satellites. Or can it be positioned too take a signal from one satellite into two lnbs?

If you get the Tivo from Directv, they will provide the multiplexer (splits a dual LNB to 4 or 8 outputs), and they will do the installation at no charge.

For standard service, the dish receives data from 2 satellites. The 3 LNB antenna adds a LNB to receive from a 3rd satellite for HD service, and some local channels.

The only way to add more outputs is to add a second dish, or a multiplexer which Directv will GIVE YOU, and INSTAll for FREE.

Well I'm going too have too take care of this myself and would rather do it myself as I live out here in the "sticks" of Montana. The only "installer" in the area for directv knows more about racing lawnmowers then he does about installations.

Radio Shack carries the multiplexer you need. It's like 45 bucks if memory servers. You could order it on line too. Sounds like a 4 port would do ya.

Mmmmm, no.

The newer versions are powered by the voltage the receivers pump into the antenna. Older, or lesser models require an AC adapter.
