Hello all, it has been ages since I posted; been having great success with my Polk speakers until tonight. I hope Ken is still here checking up on the site. So getting back to my problem and any help from you all would be great.

I have a set of FXi-50’s in the rear side of my home theater. Tonight while watching Star Gate the move the right FXi-50 speakers started to buzz. I took off the covers on the speakers, and both of the tweeters are making a buzzing sound during the music of Star gate and also during all playing of the move but at a lower volume (buzz). I check to see if another move or music did it also and the buzzing was louder during any music I put on. Are these tweeter blown?

The buzzing is like a vibration or when we were kids using our combs with wax paper and pressing it ageist our mouths and talk making a buzzing sound. I hope you know what I am trying to describe.

Thanks for your help and replys

Seems strange that both surround speakers would fail at the same time. Try connecting the 50's to the Main (L/R) channels and see if you hear the same thing. Connect the main speakers to the suround terminals and see if you hear the problem. It might be your electronics and not the speakers.

I have moved the speaker to the rear (same) I have moved the speaker to the other side (same) This is what i was thinking also how can both be gone.........but they are. When I play music thats when you hear the buzzing big time.

Its good to see you (read) again Frank Z.........hows your rig doing

Do what Frank suggested. If the fault moves with the speaker, then it's most likely the speaker. If it doesn't, then your AVR, rear channel amplifier and associated plumbing is suspect.

I would hold off moving the mains to the rear channels, in case it's the AVR, no need to fry them up also.

If you have a cheap pair of speakers, super cheap, hook them up instead. ALWAYS have a pair of crapboxes for troubleshooting audio problems.

In hindsight, also check your wiring, swap it out if neccesary just to double check. Just be methodical, you'll figure it out.

I moved speaker like I said (by the way the wife thinks I am nuts....shes the one that found the speaker has a problems). I told her I need to see if it the speaker or the rig.

The rig is a 49 TXi and its fine. So I guess I have a problem with on one speaker but both tweeters in that speaker.

Rigs doin' alright, but doesn't get as much playtime as I'd like.

Both tweets crappin out at once, no change when the speaker is moved to a different set of terminals....Open it up and have a look at the crossover and associated wires. Could be a bad crossover.

The fault moved with the speaker previously....sorry, I'm tired for some reason. Yes, the speaker is the problem at this point, specifically the tweeters.

    Hello,
All that you need to do is place the tweeters in a padded envelope and send to Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154, please include a short note giving us your name and address and a copy of your sales receipt. The service department will quickly send a replacement tweeter(s).
    Regards, Ken
