Where's gidrah? Since my $21.12 bid didn't fly, he should go after them...
But what's up with this?If you win and want to pick up this system at my house, that is fine, but I am charging a $100.00 pick up fee
If you really want them, contact him early cause this ad's gonna get pulled...More later,

that is right by me cool
can he carge a pick up fee? he wants 100 just to pick them up. that is so wack -
It's stupid, but he can charge whatever he wants as long as it's stated in the auction.Political Correctness'.........defined

Woohoo! I'm the current high bidder ($480). We'll see how long that lasts. I wouldn't mind paying $500+ in shipping fees to get a piece of history.Brian Knauss

"If you win and want to pick up this system at my house, that is fine, but I am charging a $100.00 pick up fee, on top of your winning bid. If you want these speakers shipped to you, I am willing to do that, but I'll charge a $200.00 handling fee on top of UPS charges if I have to ship."
Wow. These must be some high demand speakers. That, or the new baby must be costing them more than they expected.;)
This is the first time I have seen a "pick up fee". Other than greed, what would be the justification/motivation for this?
The only reasonable justification I can think of is if the seller is going to box/crate the speakers prior to pickup.
"If you think the $200 fee is a lot, please know that I have a bad back and will have to carry these HEAVY speakers to my car, to the shipping store, get them packed, haul them back to my car, go to UPS, haul them inside, and wait longer then I'd like to think about, to ship to you. The $200 is for my time, effort, packing cost, etc. "

QUESTION FOR SELLER:
Dear liquidationdeals,
Is the $100 pickup fee to cover the cost of moving the White Teddy Bear with the red sweater and for moving the M+M's off the center speaker? Seriously, people are laughing at you on the Polk Forum regarding this $100 picup fee. FYI.
RESPONSE:
Laugh away - exactly what is your point?? If your time is not worth anything, then that is exactly what you should charge. Enough said, go back to drooling on yourself. You wish you could afford a set of speakers like these. -
I vote that guy as the #1 lamest Polk owner ever. "You wish you could afford a set of speakers like these."??? PLEASE! I am sure more than a handful of people on here could, even at MSRP. He is why audiophiles get a bad wrap for being snobs.Brian Knauss

Looks like 95% of the listing is a cut-n-paste from this site. Ebay will likely wait until the last day of the auction and pull his ad.
-
Wow, didn't think one auction would be such a sore subject for people.
OK, here's the bottom line on this - I am dying and won't be around after the end of the year. This is why I am selling just about everything I own. Needless to say, my temper has grown short, and my patience is very thin, especially when I get snotty emails. After all, why else would anyone sell an SRT system. I about as far from being a snob as anyone can be. Thanks for the labels without knowing me (see, no patience).
Also, whoever said that mailboxes, UPS store, etc packs and SHIPS, doesn't realize just how much they jack up the shipping costs. It's going to cost $200 to crate these, period. Now, if you want to pay the jacked up shipping that the UPS store charges, fine, I'll leave them there and you can pay more. However, I am offering to take them to my warehouse and ship them at my contract rates to save money. The $200 is for the crating.
The $100 pick up fee is for having to take all the time off to meet people at my house to show them the speakers - that's all, if I thought anyone would look poorly on that, then I probably wouldn't have done it - but you have to look at the other side of the coin on this - how often does a MINT set of SRTs hit the auction market starting at $1.00 NO RESERVE.
I feel bad about the polk material in the auction. I am thinking of just cancelling the auction right now, and rewriting it without the polk stuff. I didn't think it was a big deal, and was just looking to get the ad done quickly.
OK, there it is - flame away if you feel it's necessary, otherwise, thanks for listening.

If he's rubbing any of you the wrong way, report his copy write violations.
I've seen Pick-Up fees in listings before, just not as blatant. Usually they are on the order of what the seller would have overcharged on shipping to cover his listing fees... Of course this guy's ad is pretty complex...More later,

Sorry to hear your situation Todd.
Hope you get what you need for them.
peace,
-Luc -
I do have empathy for you Todd, they are your speakers and you can do as wish.
I would not charge a winning bidder to come and pick up there item. I would also not pay such a charge.
Take Care and Good Luck with your sale. -
Thanks for the kind words guys - someone last night offered me $4,000 cash - told him okay - we'll see if he shows up today with the money. He bought some exercise equipment from me last month, so he'll most likely come through.
I am really, really going to miss this system. I told my wife I didn't expect them to sell so quickly. If he does pick them up today, it'll be the first time since 1997 that I haven't spent a day enjoying them.
I got so much more enjoyment from these speakers then from the money that they cost - I guess that's the real test.
It's funny the kind of decisions you make when you're winding down the amount of time you have left. I actually had no intentions of selling these speakers until my wife told me that she didn't want them after I am gone. The whole system she feels is just too complicated for her to operate and every now and then one of the kids hits a button on the remote that disables something, and she can't figure out how to get the tv working again. She just wanted to make things simple for her so that once I am gone she wouldn't have to worry about something like that. She just told me this last week, so we talked and that's what brought about the decision to even offer the system for sale.
I am not sure the guy who is buying these speakers really understands exactly what they are, and what they meant to me. I really do look at it like owing a piece of history, and there was never even one second that I didn't enjoy listening to them. The sound is so rich and enveloping, it's a lot like therapy. It's hard to explain. Tonight is going to be strange for sure listening to sound from the tv's speakers.
In any event, Doctors say I won't make it past January anyways. Kind of puts things like speakers, etc right into perspective. I hope none of you ever have to go through anything like this.
Warm regards,Todd -
Now that I am all depressed as hell. I'm sorry to hear about your terminal illness. God bless you and your family.
-
As i said todd good luck and i hope the time you have left is enjoyable. It definitely is a shame you couldnt have made it to NZ for a holiday, i think you would've enjoyed it. BTW theyre not called kiwifruit anymore theyre now zespri, go figure?

Person showed up this morning with $4,000 for the speakers and $2,000 for the Denon amps and DVD player. Cancelled the auctions.
I want to thank those of you who sent me nice e-mails and posted warm words on this forum. It has been a difficult time, and in all honesty, I am ready to go meet Jesus. I need to move my family into a more affordable home for them, which will happen next Friday. Then I'll spend every minute with them until I am gone. Cherish every minute you guys.

Hey Todd, sorry to hear about your illness. God bless you & your family.

I feel real bad reading this. You have my sympathies. I was looking through all of your sales and comments and noticed you have sold quite a few sets of this cutting tool.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=22664&item=4311725752
Then I noticed you have an ebay store.

I give you much kudo's for having the strength in these last few months of life to sell from an ebay store and liquadate your assets.
Cheers

Not nowing you illness it saddens me to see that anyone be put through such a situation. I wish for some sort of miricole to be handed down to you. God bless you and yours.
Dave -
HBomb, I do see your point and agree completely.
I also notice how this guy seems to really value life now that he is in his last few months on God's earth. So much so that he charges a $100 pickup fee for his precious and limited time.
Its also nice to see his family has accepted his scheduled passing-on by supporting him in his decision to spend his last few months liquidating assets. This will certainly help to have these details already pre-handled. Not many people are so very considerate to their loved ones to not burden during this very grievous time by leaving them with several sets of cutting tools and flagship polk speakers to sell.
The only person I know that matches this extraordinary level of consideration for his fellow man is perhaps our long-missed friend Wangotango68. The sincerity that both of these individuals share along with their love for Polk speakers makes them truly extraordinary individuals. -
Heard about this turn of events at the gathering... Hopefully it's needless to say that my 2nd post in this thread would have read differently had I seen your 1st one... It was not yet "up" when I began replying...
Glad you made your sale... Sorry for the reason you were selling... But at least you owned and enjoyed them for a time.
Milk what remains to the fullest... God's speed...More later,

wow, why do you guys care what he does anyway? if he wants to charge money for his time and you don't like it then don't buy the speakers. obviously someone didn't mind paying the $100 or $200 because they bought them.
"people at the polk forum are laughing"......wtf? do you think he cares? who made you so special? if you don't like the auction then don't bid, simple as that. now you guys are acusing him of lieing about the situation he is in. again, do you think he cares? your opinion of his situation means **** and is completely irrelevant. leave the guy alone and leave his auction alone. find something better to do then cry about ebay auctions you don't like.
