Attention LSi7 lovers

I know a lot of you LOVE your LSi7s, a lot more than the 9s. I have a pair and do enjoy them for easy listening music, such as Norah Jones and classical, but I can honestly say their sound isn't cutting it for rock and metal music. I have tried running them full-range (which I prefer to with 2-channel) and they don't get the job done. I've also set them to small and had my SVS 25-31 CS+ filling in the low end and they still don't impress me. It seems as though the mids and highs just don't blend together well, that they muddy up and distort, even with the highest crossover on my HK AVR230. I have them running off a Crown XLS402A amp, which does 260x2 @ 8 ohms, and 400x2 @ 4 ohms, so they're getting plenty of power.

Do any of you guys agree with me the LSi7s are great speakers in their right application? The LSi15s I used to have blew me away for rock/metal music but these little guys just aren't cutting it. I think I'm going to have to sell these LSi7s and get myself another pair of LSi15s. I was thinking the 7s with a sub would sound almost as good as the 15s but they can't even hold a candle to them. The 15's superior crossover structure (both 5.25" doing mids up to 2.4k) really shines with rock/metal and easily surpasses their little brother, the 7.

What do you guys think?

    Well,
    aren't you stating the obvious, bud? (law of physics and all) ;)

    Strictly based on my experience with them:

    LSi7 lacks the energy and clarity. The perfect job for it is for surround back, small and adequate. For any serious two channels listening, I found LSi9 and a decent sub to be optimal. Of course, LSi15 is the way to go.
    I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    Zero, did you stuff the front port or both of them? What did you use? I might try one and do an A/B and see if it helps.

    Thanks!

    Much like you I had the 15's and the 7's. Due to space limitations and my inability to come up with a good setup location for the 15's (TV has a corner placement) I ended up returning the 15's and running the 7's. I use my system for mainly HT and I do not feel that I gave up much going from the 15's to the 7's for my application.

    Have you thought about purchasing a crossover for your 25-15 and running it with the 7's set to large (with the sub handling bass frequencies.) - I don't know if this would work, but it might be interesting.

    I admit that when I returned my 15's I compared them mainly as HT front speakers and not as 2 channel music speakers. I do have my 7's set very high off the floor and angled down to the listening position. I don't know if you have played with the 7's placement for rock music, but they do seem quite tempermental about location. (make that for all the LSi series, not just the 7's)

    When I get a room more dedicated to HT I will either run a set of SDA1's for the fronts or repurchase the 15s. For such a small speaker the 7's really do sound great where space is an issue.

    Maybe, but I've not yet met the speaker that is great at reproducing all genres. The CA's are the closest to doing this that I've heard, and there are still a couple areas where others are better.

    Interesting comments about the port stuffing on the 7's and 15's... Probably first thought of during a last second clean up before Mom arrived for a visit..

    I used Lsi7 stacked over Rti70's. I get a fuller sound with stack. Lsi7 by itself lacks the midrange that I noticed a lot for both HT and music.

    Speakers=>Salk Soundscape 8, Soundscape Center,Surrounds-Dali Rubicon LCR, Lsi7
    PreAmp, Amp => Marantz AV8801, ATI 6007 amp, Oppo HA-1 DAC
    Source => Sonore MicroRendu, Oppo BDP-103, Mede8er 600XD, Dune HD Smart D1, Synology DS1813+(16TB)
    Sub - JTR Captivator S2 (Dual 18")
    Power - Furman IT-Ref20i on dedicated 30Amp circuit with Furutech GTX-R outlet
    Screen=> JVC RS-45 projector Da-Lite HP 133" 2.35

    Fuller sound? No kidding, could it be that you just created two radiating surfaces aimed at your location?
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Thats the only viable option i have for now until I upgarde to Lsi15.
    Rti70 with outlaw amps are very bright for my taste so I have disconnected the tweeters. I use Lsi7 tweeters. So I have three midrage drivers from 80Hz-2.4kHz.
    I did not like the sound of Lsi7 by itself. I always felt there is something missing.
    Though my setup is not very ideal but I gotta wait for Lsi15 till i have enough dough.

    OK, good enough, it's nice that it's working for you. I think the LSi7 is a great speaker, but full or chesty it certainly isn't, so I get where you are coming from.

    All the Lsi series sound almost the same. The biger you go the more bass you have. 7's to 25's this holds true.

    The 15's are a remarkable sounding speaker. I personally like them over the 7's and 9's.Without a su running the lows, the bookshelf speakers can stay on the shelf.

    As polkatese pointed out with his experience, surround back is a perfect place for the lsi7's. Running them as mains require a remarkable sounding sub to get full richness out of your recordings...in my opnion that is
