Ok. it's been a long time since i've had an amp installed in my car... say 15 yrs or so.. last time I did I had a 2 channel amp for the rears.. back 15 yrs ago.. amps were only about 50 or 60wpc. mine was tiny at 35wpc.. it was a powerful amp for the 6x9's back then.. it was a sony.

but damn.. i'm looking at amps online now.. and they are like 600wpc, 1200wpc, and 1400wpc. holy sheite. :p

Yup! Aint technology grand? I remember back around 88-91 or so, the biggest amp CIrcuit City carried was the Coustic 460A. 60x2!! It looked huge sitting up there! It had no bass boost nor did it have any kind of crossover. Just a gain control!

    Yep, times have changed.

You can still get the dinky amplifiers but they won't power much besides a tweeter. Gone are the days of treated paper pulp cones and whizzer tweeters. Speakers are not nearly as sensitive as they used to be in car audio so small amps are making thier way out. They don't have the oomph behind them to push the heavier, less sensitive speakers well enough to be heard over the asundry of noises in an automotive environment.

It's also the reason behind alot of friction between car audio and home audio. The power levels in home audio are a joke compared to car audio. Then again, car audio is DC, 12-14 volts and pushing hundreds of amps. Very conducive to high power. Not necessarily clean power but technology steps in there and helps out alot.

But yeah, two different worlds and completely different times that they exist in. High fidelity car audio is a vastly different world than high fidelity home audio but they both use the same principles and most people don't realize how similar they actually are.

I still have one of those old Coustic Amps. It is silver and it says Power Logic on it. I think mine is called Power Logic AMP 460 . It is 98 x 2 RMS and 250 watts RMS birdged, and has a selectable bass boost @45Hz (0, +6, or +12db). I actually had it hooked up not that long ago, I had it running my sub for a little over a month when my sub amp gave out. Not bad for an amp that is so old :) .

JBL/Crown have the 6kW beast... problem is that it sucks up about 600A at the highest RMS power. Can we say multiple battery system??

    600amps is a lot...but its about right for a 6kw amp...
100 amps per kw is about the norm...a little low actually

You know, they have these new things call maps. You can find them in this other neat thing called a phone book where they list places of business and thier associated telephone numbers.

If you had found one of these tomes of information, you would know that the Echelon Mall is in Voorhees Township, NJ and then you could have called and found out that Palace Electronics left the Echelon Mall about 12 years ago.

Don't make excuses for me. I have no regrets or apologies about what I write. If you don't want a sarcastic answer then don't ask questions that you can find the answer to yourself if you took 5 minutes to read a phone book and use a phone.

im not gonna get into an arguement with you about this, i just think it was uncalled for, it was a simple question. when somebody says something, its not always the first inclination for someone to go out and research it. it was a simple question, that only required a simple answer. all that was necessary was a "it was here, but they moved out so long ago"
