Lance Armstrong Story

I just read an article stating that the Lance Armstrong may be stripped of his 6th Tour de France title. In a random check for banned substances, 3 substances were found in Lance Armstrong's hotel that are banned by the French....

I don't know a lot about the man, but I heard the following on the news:
He has the largest lung capacity ever measured
His heart is 2/3rds larger than the average person
His resting pulse is 35.
He is amazing and doping won't affect those measurements -
whats the avg. persons resting pulse?

Yes, he is, but not a good guy at all. Years ago when he was a nothing he was booted off teh Richardson Bike Mart team for being an a-hole. Very, very arrogant but I guess now he finally earned the right to be. -

Damn right he did. The man beat CANCER and won the Tour de France SIX TIMES in a row. As far as I'm concerned, the man is a quasi-mortal SUPERman. I'd be pretty arrogant too. I'd feel damn near better than everyone honestly. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Who the hell cares? Do you have to interact with him everyday? Probably not. Do you have to interact with him at all? Defintly not, you don't have to do anything, you just choose to make a commitment to doing something. Will you interact with him if you have the chance? Most likely.
Arrogant or not, the man has done what 90% of the population out there hasn't. He talked the talk and when it came down to it, he backed it up. He is, for all intents and purposes, a celebrity. With that comes constant bombardment by raving fans who hound you every second of your day. Sure, he should have expected it but we are all human.
Honestly, I couldn't care less if the guy is a jerk. All I know is that he is an American, he has gone to many, many events and won consistiently. Whether he is a genetic freak or not, he can do and I can't. In the cycling world, that makes him better than me and I will readily admit that. On the other hand, I'm probably better at rebuilding a carburetor than he is or building an amplifier. In that respect, I might better than him but I couldn't beat him at cycling, no way, no how. Infact, there is always someone better than you but on the level that Armstrong is at, your numbers are finite. Given his accomplishments, he pretty much is the best there is at this time. He can be as arrogant as he wants. With his endorsement deals and winnings, he probably has enough money to BUY friends so what the hell does he care about a guy like me or you saying he's a jerk? Hell, I'd be honored if he just flipped me off because at least then I know he noticed me. He gets noticed everywhere he goes, I don't.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

No, I would say HE IS the very best that there is at this time. Not slamming him, don't get me wrong as I have the utmost respect for what he's done. I just think it's funny because that very same store won't mention the facts now-they put up a shrine in his honor and act like they had something to do with him getting where he is. Truth is, they didn't do squat but toss him on the street for his attitude. He himself and his God-given talent got him where he is. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Ms. Crow is on the sidelines cheering, either...that'd be some pretty good motivation for me! -
Lance Armstrong is a fraud. I'm sorry to break the news to all of you. Do any of you actually follow cycling? I actually do, well I did a lot more up until quite recently.
The world of cycling has been a complete joke for many years. Most of it started back when a bunch of the cyclists got busted for banned performance enhancement substances many years ago.
Since then the cycling commities that run such events as the Tour de France have been very hush hush about the fact their sport is COMPLETELY overrun by dopers. Their testing standards are a COMPLETE joke and any idiot can figure out how to beat the system....and they do.
Lance isn't the problem here, so let's just make that clear. The only reason I use his name is because he is an American and he is the most public figure in the cycling world. He is the best in a sport of frauds, I'll give him that. I don't know how that is anything to be proud of, but I guess whatever your morals are....so be it.
What bothers me the most is that Lance has a gigantic influence on our youth. While it's a rare breed, some young people decide to get into competitive cycling at a young age. It's a very tough and grueling sport. What's so sad is that once those kids grow up and become quasi-competitive they realize that they have to start doping in order to be competitive in their races. It is true that you cannot compete at that level if you're not taking perfomance enhancers. It's literally IMPOSSIBLE.
Some of you may not believe that, but then you must not follow cycling much. I'm just telling you the reality and I'm not going to argue about it. If you guys want to believe that Lance is great, fine. I just hope you weigh in all of the facts when coming to that conclusion.
The drugs these guys take essentially thicken the blood. They eliminate as many white blood cells as possible and stock up on red blood cells. It makes stamina a much easier thing to come by.
It's also a fact that eight cyclists, ranging in age from 16 to 35, have died suddenly since Jan. 2003, according to published reports in Europe. None of them were doing anything strenuous and all of them were heart related.
That's an ASTONISHING number.
Have you ever listened to Greg LaMonde talk about Lance and others? Do it once if you don't want to take my word on the matter.
Quote from a cyclist accused of dopinhg:
"Gaumont estimated that 90 percent of pro cyclists take banned drugs, and he described how some riders use nasal sprays or skin creams to explain positive tests."
The bottom line is that the whole organization is flawed. They want to pretend it's not a problem, but it's a horrible problem.
And as far as Lance goes personally...He played off that 'I'm a Christian' crap and then abondons his wife and kids for Sheryl Crow. What a complete loser.
And amazingly...the toughest organization...the Olympics.....Lance isn't going to be in the Olympics this year because he 'misses his kids..'
Those same kids you abandoned Lance? What a joke. -
I could probably list 50 to 100 pro-athletes in the U.S. that are far worse "role models" than Lance Armstrong. Not saying he is perfect, but I really don't think he has the same affect on U.S. children as *many* pro football/basketball/baseball players. Lance does alot more (Lance Armstrong Foundation) than more publicized and idolized U.S. pro-athletes. At least there IS drug testing right? I still cannot get over the fact that the players union in MLB prevents drug testing.
-
Yes, so could I. What's the difference? They're just as bad as he is. Lance is just a fraud and he only has a small influence on kids that are actually into competitive cycling, which is few. I recognize that. Doesn't change what a joke he is.
I don't look up to many athletes at all because of what you have said. The truth is that the NFL is one of the few sports that is serious about anti-doping. Please keep in mind that there is a difference between doping and supplements. One is illegal and the other is a personal decison that only affects the user. The former affects you and the entire sport and anyone interested in the sport.
Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi. Just as bad, if not worse. All the record books are tainted.
I'm not looking for anyone to condemn these people. I'm doing that, but that's just because I think it's wrong. I just wish people would recognize it. The evidence against him and others far outweighs anything for him.
Someone like Lance would be better suited to come out against doping publically. That would take a real man, but it would expose him and his sport for what they are.
Lance is amazing, but he could be amazing without the drugs. The human body has limits. What Lance has done is waaaay out of the realm of normal. He was suspect before that, now it's just absurd. -
Oh who the hell cares? It's only a sport and honestly, you can pick any sport out there that has "dopers". Beyond that, what you are saying is that I should totally hate Lance Armstrong as a cyclist because of his personal life. The hell with that. I never even said I liked him. There is no solid proof that the guy is doing drugs and there is no solid proof that he isn't. Only fanboy implications that he is because 90% of the rest of the sport supposedly is. Honestly, your quote doesn't sound like someone who is fed up with the BS but rather like someone who couldn't be competative, got jaded and is now bitter and throwing out tantrums at every chance playing the hurt little boy routine.
It never fails. Whenever someone sings the praises of an accomplished athelete, there is always someone coming up with the same sob story. Get over it already, nobody's perfect. When someone finally finds out for sure that Lance Armstrong is doing drugs, I'll think differently. Until then, the guy is in the record books for winning a race 6 times in a row and flat out dominating the sport. There is no denying that.
Honestly, if everyone is doing drugs then why is Armstrong so dominant? If they are all taking the same drugs, shouldn't they be competative and no one clear rider being at the top of the game? Something doesn't add up and even if 90+% of the field is on drugs, wouldn't the playing field still be even anyway?Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Is that what I'm saying? What do you know about cycling? The sport is corrupt. Open your eyes. Go ahead and believe Lance isn't a doper.
The thing you keep leaving out is that the ORGANIZATION IS CORRUPT! The WHOLE thing. It's like letting the inmates run the jail. Their testing stardards are scant at best.
Tell me...why isn't Lance in the Olympics? The reason is that it's the only organization that has it's **** together when it comes to tough testing standards.
As far as the proof, there is plenty of it. It's no use sitting here and replying if your not going to be rational about it.
Furthermore I never said you should hate him. You're the one praising him as a God among men and I'm telling you he isn't. Did I once say he WASN'T an amazing athlete? Did I ever once say he wasn't great at what he does? Did I say he should have his medals stripped? No.
I've said nothing of the sort. I just think that sports isn't worth paying any attention to when it's not HUMAN BEINGS doing things with their God given talents without the aid of CHEMICALS that are illegal and VERY dangerous.
EIGHT cyclists died in the last year of heart failures while doing nothing strenuous.
It's a SERIOUS problem. There is NO WAY in hell Lance is more competitive than those that are doping if he isn't. Use your noodle and figure it out. Doesn't take a rocket scientist. You don't want to believe your precious hero isn't really what he seems.Honestly, your quote doesn't sound like someone who is fed up with the BS but rather like someone who couldn't be competative, got jaded and is now bitter and throwing out tantrums at every chance playing the hurt little boy routine.
Actually he was caught doping by the EPO. Greg LaMonde never was and he's saying the same stuff I am. Greg has nothing to gain by saying this.
You know who he is don't you?It never fails.
Brett Favre is my favorite QB. He plays for my team. He hasn't missed a game since he started playing for our team. That is amazing. That's a true athlete. He was nailed for being addicted to pain killers back in the mid 90s. It made me think twice about him. Thing is that he's still been uninjured to this date and is free of his addiction. That is something to be proud of. He's an amazing athlete. The difference between him and Armstrong is that he came to terms with his addiction/cheating and did something about it. Lance won't do any of those things even though the charges against him are so huge.
Please tell my why Lance won't do any testing outside of the EPO and other organizations? The reason is because he'd be caught.Honestly, if everyone is doing drugs then why is Armstrong so dominant? If they are all taking the same drugs, shouldn't they be competative and no one clear rider being at the top of the game? Something doesn't add up and even if 90+% of the field is on drugs, wouldn't the playing field still be even anyway?
I think I said that in my first response. I said Lance wasn't the problem the cycling world is. Amazing how you fail to read exactly what I've been saying on the matter. They're all a bunch of dopers. Depending on what drugs you take and how much you take and how your body reacts to the drugs deoends on your success. Kudos to Lance for being the best amongst frauds, but again....using your logic....
If Lance isn't doping and everyone else is.....how on earth is he better than them as well? Is he superman? No he isn't. He's a doper too. *Slam Dunk*
It's also so arrogant to just blatantly accept frauds and corruption of a sport. It's completely unhealthy and the standard ruins lives. Do I think Lance would be doing this stuff if he didn't have to? Don't know. No way to know that. The point is that we should have never had to be in this position to begin with.
Also...Many people have indicated his cancer was a result of the chemicals he was taking.
So let's just leave it at this. You think Lance is clean because it hasn't been proven by a CORRUPT organization that he isn't.
I think Lance is a fraud because I've followed the sport and realize what a huge problem doping is in cycling. I also know that if everyone else were on drugs (which pretty much has been proven by the bust in 1997) Lance would have to be in order to remain competitive.
I'm done here because this will turn into a fight that isn't worth fighting over. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything, but I've been following cycling for a while and it's annoying to see such fawning over someone who has more skeletons in his closet than a graveyard. -
Bet he owns Bose, too.
The French would be faster if the judges allowed them to ride the other way, *away* from the line. It's that whole "moving forward" thing that has them perplexed. -
Pretty much all athletes at the pro level are on roids. Its the only way to compete!
I wouldve liked to competed in powerlifting contests but I stood no chance because Im 100% natural (mainly because I cant afford them and they scare me).
I was benching 425 at a body weight of 255. At that weight class (242-275), there were guys putting up 500-575 poounds! I got my **** kicked! Did a little better in the deadlift and squat but still got pummeled. Didnt even finish in the top 10!! And this wasnt even a pro level competiton!
The point being that its impossible to compete at that level naturaly. The body has its limits and if you dont "cheat" then youre doomed to the minor league for life.
Thats why no pro league drug tests thoroughly anyway. Bodybuilding and Powerlifting drug test buts its a joke and they dont test thoroughly. You think Ronnie Coleman, the reigning Mr Olympia could weigh 325 pounds with a bodyfat level of about 2% naturally? It cant be done.
Bottom line is, if youre going to poo-poo Lance because hes on roids then youll have to include pretty much all star athletes for the last 25 or so years. Yeah I think it sucks to because I think I couldve done pretty well in lifting but what can you do?polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
