Tough call trying to pick just one...

Oingo Boingo on Halloween was an overall excellent show and one of the best. For the best entertaining show I'd give that to Bon Jovi with Cinderella as the opener. For the best music only, The Cure, no show, nothing on stage but the band standing and singing.

I'd have to say as far as enjoyment factor and big anticipation it was

    Jimmy Page & Robert Plant

This was the first time around in 1996. Talk about electricity in the air. I saw them in Chicago and Milwaukee. Seats weren't that great, but I was there. The crowd was absolutely deafening the whole first half of the concert. Loudest crowd I've ever been involved with.

I had to laugh at a stoner couple because the guy was so baked and drunk he passed out before the concert started and stayed passed out. I mean come on Page & Plant back together and you pass out  .

Managed to get recordings of both shows which really allow me to re-live the experience. There is a Milwaukee pro-shot video I need to track down one of these days.

A tie for first would also be JEWEL 2004. Got to see her in my favorite venue, the Coronado Theater (right here in town). Great seats, awesome sound, awesome performance.

Honorable mention: Prince 2004. Great seats, stage in the round. Prince is quite a showman/musician. The venue had horrid sound so that ruined it a bit. No a huge Prince fan, but came away very impressed at the musical versatility.

Also saw Pink Floyd in 1986.....got too drunk to really appreciate.

Still need to see RUSH before they stop touring.

    Ozzfest 1997 (first one).

I got to witness Pantera, Ozzy, and Black Sabbath all in the front row. That was also my first concert ever (I was 17) and nothing since can touch it.

I remember this concert also...you where probably right beside me (if you saw it in Pittsburgh)...lol

It was in September if I recall...my friend had a ticket for the "Pit" but she wasn't able to go. That Sunday morning she called me and said she would sell me the ticket for..get this...$25...but I had to drive up to Johnstown to pick it up. So off I went to get the ticket and then drive back to the other side of Pittsburgh to the "Start Lake Ampatheater" to see the show.

I remeber this because it was the last show I saw in Pittsburgh, I moved to Cali the following Monday. That was one hell of a show. I was sore for the rest of the week from the "Pit."

EDIT: OOps...my brain must have been out to lunch... ...This was the Pantera show I was recalling and not the Ozzfest. Although I was there at that one as well, just not front row.

Greatest concert for me? No question, the best would be Rush, 1985, Power Windows tour with the Steve Morse Band opening in Dallas. I had 2nd row center seats. Incredible. After that I moved to Alaska which is not known for its music, but the other two great ones were:

Bela Fleck and the FleckTones, Fairbanks Alaska, 2000. Great show in a highschool auditorium.

Dave Grisman Quintet, 2005 in Anchhorage Alaska. Every one of these guys is a virtuoso.

    Thats it for this Alaskan!

I have to add a couple more that were extremely enjoyable.

Both would be considered "cover bands" one is local to the mid-west. The other was a tribute band of sorts.

In like 2002 or 2003, the Jason Bonham Band put out a cd titled "In the Name of My Father". It was Jason and his bandmates covering Zeppelin songs. Really a great effort. If anyone can get away with it it should be Jason. Somehow our local bar booked them. This bar is not set up for music, you know the type, makeshift stage and cheap music system. It's a sports bar for christ sake! We got there about 4 or 5 hours early as ther is very little formal seating that faces the stage area (which usually has tables in that area). We got to hang out and drink with the band members and road crew, eveyone except Jason of course.....he's a rock star. After lots of wings, beer, shots and pizza it was time for the show to start. We all rushed the makeshift stage area and thru the crowd came Jason. He sat down at his DW kit, drank or rather slammed 4 bottles of beer in a matter of a minute (like father, like son :D ) and they kicked off the LZ concert. Jason kept telling stories about his Dad in between songs and how much he missed him, etc. We were literally less than 6 inches away. I was resting my foot on top of the stage monitors we were so close. I think they broke a few Fire codes that night. The band was extremely tight and Jason was awesome. Zoe Bonham his siter was there and we talked with her a bit as well as the band after the show. Jason was nowhere to be seen, kinda pissed me off.

The best Zepplin cover band I've ever seen is a band called Kashmir. They are local to the midwest and those of you from CP who live in Chicago/Milwaukee/Madison/Southern Illinois may have seen them. If you haven't they are a must see band. The singer is simply awesome at singing like Robert Plant and the guitarist Frank is fu*k*ng amazing. It takes quite a performance to impress me as I have very high standards when it comes to covering Zep properly (almost no one does it completely right). These guys continue to blow my me away. If they come to your area GO SEE THEM. The drummer uses the Amber Ludwig Vista-Lite kit Bonham used in 1975 and he is incredibly awesome as well.

I have a couple that come to mind.

Earth, Wind and Fire - around '88 at the original Philadelphia Spectrum - Might not be a rock concert, but what an Excellent show.

Ronnie James Dio - Holy Diver - early eighties, same venue. Great show, friggin rocked.

The Moody Blues - backed by the Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra - Tweeter center in Camden, 2002 - Musically a great show. The arrangement was awesome, totally seemless.

Live Aid - 1985 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia - It wasn't the best as far as SQ, but what an excellent time. There is a long story to go with that one... ;)

PINK FLOYD at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal sometime in the 80's. Oddly enough, I spent most of my time gawking at the stacks and stacks of PHASE LINEAR amplifiers powering just one section of speakers....come to think of it....I ALWAYS do that at a concert...I watch the sound guys and equipement as much as the band.

He certainly ws one of the most engaging performers I've ever seen.

I saw him in the Superdrum on UT campus in '78 (or whenever his "broken leg tour" was). Terrible seats in the upper deck almost "behind" the front of the stage, and yet he made me feel like he was performing just for me.

Nine Inch Nails "Live With Teeth" 10-07-05

I also saw them around the same time in 1994 on the "Further Down the Spiral" tour and we were on the floor just behind the pit for that one.

My wife and I took my niece (for her b-day) to see Avril Lavigne on the "Under My Skin" tour and I was very impressed with her. She's got some pipes - Her range is amazing. I like the fact that she's a genuine person that is grateful for her fame - unlike Britney and Ashley and Jessica and on and on and on.

Some favorites from back in the day were:

Death on their "Spiritual Healing" tour backstage at the Cubby Bear in Wriggleyville - RIP Chuck.

Testament, Anthrax, and Exodus at the Vic Theater - chairs were tied together with flimsy rope and as soon as Exodus opened with "The Toxic Waltz" chairs went flying in all directions to make way for the pit.

Sepultura with Obituary and Obituary was the better of the two that night - actually stands out as one of the best bands I've ever seen live.

AC/DC got me started on their "Blow up your video" tour in '88.

I saw the Beach Boys as a kid with my family at Summerfest up in Wisconsin and got a bloody nose when I went after one of the beach balls that was circulating through the crowd

I've also seen a lot of local bands at different bars and clubs in the area. Those are almost always good shows - just people who love to play music for people who love to listen to it.

I can't believe there aren't any Grateful Dead fans here.
My favorite show was Grateful Dead in Hampton Virginia touring as The Warlocks because the Dead weren't allow to play there. The acoustics in the Hamptom Colisium are incredible.
Other favorite shows are The Barenaked Ladies at Meryweather Post MD and Jimmy Buffet at Nissan in VA.
