I recently bought a pair of Polk/Momo 12" woofers from a place called sounddomain.com. I got them in a box finally but didn't have an amp yet, so i droped them in my friends car. He has to Kenwood Amps which are 300 a peice. So my Polks are 400RMS and 800 Peak. They sound BLOWN! i do not understand how they could be blown, they where brand new! My Freind said "they sound like they're starving for more power" Now let me tell you i hope this is the case, because i waited for ever for them to ship hear and also spent a pretty penny with all the shipping and stuff to get to canada. But if anyone can help me out with some answeres to why they sound blown or cracky on high notes it would be greatly appriciated

Yet another set of Momos blown by a crappy kenwood amp. I'll put $20 down saying that the Kenwood was sending a clipped signal, and that blew the subs. Speakers can't handle clipped signals, there have been problems with Momos and Kenwood combinations in the past, and Kenwood is definitely not known for quality amps.

read the info about distortion and underpowering subs....ignore all the arguing because we all agree on the same thing it just took us a while to realize it lol

Oh yeah, i forgot to say how long i played the subs for, at max i played them hooked up for 5-7 min, and mabey 30 sec - 1 min was i playing it really loud. At lower levles it was great so clear, not distorted, but when we turned it up it sounded like pooper. And another note, he didn't have a cross over, so could that contribute to the possible blown speaker. SO what i'm really asking is , even if it was sending at clipped signal, could it really blow a speaker in 5 min?? Give any thought and comments you can guys!!! Thanks a bunch!!

oh yeah thier the polk/momo 2124's , they have that brushed aluminum look, and they're 12's, if that helps at all.....but i did hook them up to our home stereo a day later, and i hate it turned up quite a bit, it was shacking the room, and i didn't get any of the same effects that happened in the car they didn't sound blown!. They sounded perfect, but i didn't reach near the RMS rating, so could all that **** sound come back when it gets to higer levels of volume, or would it have come back even at low levles of volume. So really what i'm asking is, even if the subs are blown, would they still sound normal at say 150Watts but then when they got upto like 400 show signs of them being blown

    Thanks for all the help!!!
