If you could put together a 2-channel system, price no object, what would you have?

Avalon Sentinel (sp) (forgot how it is spelled)
Musical Fidelity 1000 watt Mono Blocks
Krell 2 Channel preamp - TOTL
    Krell CD Player - TOTL
Some high end wire and cables...

Actually, speaker wise, I'm about set.....

MAYBE if I could aquire the Carver Amazing Plat's MKIV's but I'm not going to sweat that.

Maybe upgrade my CJ PV-7 pre to the new CJ ART tube pre's (with a remote!).....

Possibly trade my Carver Silver 9t's for a pair of the actual Carver Silver 7 tube monos.

I'm probably more in need of upgrading sources......statement SACD / TT type things....wire and IC's.

Really though, I'm pretty damn satisfied with my 2ch rig.

I am also very happy and love every piece in place at this time.

The only thing I would choose would be the matching CTC Blowtorch Pre-Amp....but at 13K used....it's not happening anytime soon.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'd upgrade to the Musical Fidelity kW mono blocks with the matching pre. Speakers and SACD/CD player.......I'm set.

Sid, wth would you get a the MF kW's and then a Krell pre and CD player? That doesn't make sense.

I'll stand by the system I posted in that thread...excellent excess then...excellent excess now!

'course it's not my thread but we can all sit there and go through Stereophile and say...ok, this and this and one of those...

I'd say build a system around gear that you've actually seen and heard...now THAT would be fun.

I've pretty much got it already.

To play along, if I had some extra coinage, I'd venture into B&W 800's series, or some high-end Danes. Amp wise, couple of BIG Brystons, and maybe a high-end Cary Tube pre.

Organ, I've got some K Horns I'm putting up on the bay tonight, how about driving down to Texas and picking them up? I'll give you 3 hots and cot, no problem.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    ATC, your opinion doesn't count.

There isn't a rig made, now or in the future that will ever satisfy you, and we all know it!!!

I'm pretty much where I want to be. I could go for a pair of Manley 500W mono block amps, a manly phono preamp, some new tweets for the SDA's or maybe a move to some martin logan speaks, a Wadia CD player, a very extreme priced phono cartridge and maybe some speaker wire.

Actually screw all that, I would rather have a more audio friendly room. The equipment I have suffices.

Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... :D

LOL:D My parents will kick my **** before the speakers even get in the house. Did you get to play with them? What year was it made? Ssshhh...I'm saving up for a pair of RF-7. Don't tell my mom and dad:D. I'll have to get them in the house using my James Bond style 'stealth mode'. It took my dad a week to find out I got the RF-35 lol.

I'm in the same frame of mind as Russ and Madmax....IMO, my 2ch rig is in the same league as any rig that I've run into. Little better, little worse but in the same zip code.

Sure, if I had a hundred grand that's different but honestly, I'm pretty darned satisfied with where I'm at.

I'm sorry, but at this point in my life, if I had a hurdred grand, I wouldn't spend it on a stereo. Maybe $25 K tops. IMHO you should be able to put together a nice rig with that. Going beyond is just too excessive.

Besides, I'm pretty satified with what I have, I have room for improvement, sure, but I would build on what I have.

I don't know, those ProAc's we listened to were VERY impressive and could probably give the Wilson's a run for their money (if they were in the same room). And the ProAc's being 1/4th the price you'd have money left over to blow on other things (like watching young college girls walk by the store front) ;)

Yes, the ProAc's were pretty awesome. Just don't ever buy Theils. Sid, if you think the tweeter in the RTi70's is bright, you should here some Theils. They could crack your eyeglasses.

Also, ProAc's are from merry ole' England.

We heard them with some tube amp (not sure what brand) and the bass was awesome. The imaging was also great. I remember listening to my Dave Brubek greatest hits CD. There is a clarinet in the first track that sounded so real that I could not believe it.

It was all Audio Research tube gear. I believe it was the SP16 pre amp and VS110 tube power amp (I think). With a Rega Planet CD player. not a bad set up...

Well I do still have a vivid image of that young hottie in the jean skirt that we saw when we were leaving the store! :D

No, my memory sucks. I just went to Audio Research's web site and looked at pictures until I found the right models (or close to them)
