Tinny Sounding Center

The sound coming from the tweeter of my CSI40 sounds metallic ('Tinny'.) The sound can be best described as holding a piece of rigid cellophane to your mouth while speaking. I notice it more when listening to lower quality audio. The second problem is that I hear a single static popping sound between song tracks at high volume.
I have changed speakers, wire, DVD players and run each speaker independent to localize the problem to no avail.
My setup is as follows;
Receiver Yamaha RXv2400
Speakers all set to small wired with 14ga copper wire,
Front RTi150
Center CSi40
Surrounds RTi38
DVD player Samsung HD931 connected Optical
DVD player Pioneer 563A connected Optical and Analog

Hello,
In order to determine if it is a speaker problem or not, substitute the center speaker for one of your two front speakers. In other words, using the speaker wires for either the right or left speaker connect the center speaker in this position. If the poor sound stays in the center speaker then, in all likelihood, the tweeter has been damaged in your speaker. If the speaker now sounds fine, then the problem would be elsewhere in your system.

Doh! Thanks. I overlooked that one. I will try that tonight with an extra RTi38.
Any suggetstion with my second issue.

Hello,
That's a good one, I'm not sure what could be causing that. Are you sure it only happens between tracks? Could it be it is happening throughout the music but, since the volume is high, you don't hear it? The only device that "knows" it's between tracks is the CD itself. In other words, from the point of view of the receiver and speakers they don't "know" when the CD is between tracks. Only the CD player and the CD itself have any control over when it is between tracks. How about when the player is in pause, do you hear the pops?
It is possible that the muting circuit, inside the CD/DVD player that is not functioning properly and is producing the sounds you hear. There is a section, of the digital to analogue process, that involves muting the sound whenever you are changing the tracks or using the pause function. It could involve this section of your player, but that's just a guess.
You could confirm this by connecting the player to another system to see if the same thing happens.

Thanks Ken. I am not sure if this is happening throughout the music. I have some investigating to do tonight. If it is a componant problem I hope its the DVD player. Will post detail of my findings.
