Greetings Polklings,
I am the new kid on the forum, or should I say new girl on the forum? Anywho, if you call me anything just call me Dezi :D . Anyways, I've only been interested in Home Audio for about a year now, but I've got a pretty good system, imho. If I ask stupid questions at times, just bare with me, because im still learning. Thanks!

Welcome aboard. As a long time Polk forum member, I hearby authorize you, on behalf of the other forum members, to smack Trey upside the head if he gets out of line on the forum.

On second thought, just smack him because he is Trey. ;)

Sid, is she, ya know... umm.... the opposite of cold? That, and tell me you fixed that driver before you sold her the 90.

The M&K still used the bottom as a passive -- I sold it to her for a KILLER price, and I personally like it that way and discouraged her of fixing it - but she can always fix it. Again, she could fix it and still have a killer sub for under 150

I sold her the M&K for 50 bucks dude...

Show me a better deal? (looks around)

    That's just wrong.

Selling a GIRL a broke-**** sub. Talk about taking advantage.

Dez, you should go ahead and order the replacement woofer, when time and money allows. Sid is a waterhead, it was designed to use 2 woofers, it was sold with 2 woofers, the amp is LOOKING for 2 woofers - a blown active woofer does NOT act as a passive radiator with the voice coil still attached.

On that note, you'd probably be better off installing an ACTUAL passive radiator, vs just 'leaving' the blown driver in there. Measure the cutout, I have a pair of new, 10" passives, and can add some mass for a universal fit - and send them to Sid to give to you to install.

    Cheers,
    Rooster

First of all, when you live with my grandma, one driver or two does not matter. I only get to CRANK it up when shes not around...which is very rarely. But when I get my own place, I'm gonna be in the fix. :p *alert* edit anyways, yeah like i was saying, Trey did not rip me off, he has been very gracious...except for the fact, that he is the idiot that pulled me into the consuming blackhole of home audio *rips hair out* ARRRRGH!

    Russ,

You're an idiot - plain and simple.

50 + 83 Bucks for a complete sub that cost 1,000 15 years ago. That is a killer deal, considering she can sell it on ebay for 250 and make money on it. I gave her a deal, and would have replaced the driver for her if she wanted - it just isnt worth it for that particular subwoofer you jackass.

You havnt heard it, you havnt owned it - I have hit 115db with that subwoofer with 1 driver, no less than what it hit with 2 drivers. It dosnt hit below 25hz with 2 drivers or one.

So where u get to say I ripped her off is beyond me.

Again, show me a better subwoofer for 50 bucks you waterhead.

    BTW Russ,

    I WILL BE WAITING******

For you to show me a 50 dollar subwoofer that can beat it

ANYDAY, AND YES - it has to be an OEM subwoofer, no DIY.

    BTW Russ,
The M&K is to get her started, she will probally want to upgrade the sub in the future -- She wants a SVS in the present future

But yeah, I want to see the 50 dollar subwoofer that can beat it since I ripped her off.

Welcome Dezi. You'll learn a lot about audio on this forums.

    Sid,
C'mon man. There's nothing wrong with Russ' post. No reason for you to explode. He was saying it's wrong to sell a broken sub. I wouldn't sell audio gear to anyone unless it's working 100%.

Russ was nice enough to offer your friend some 10" drivers and you blow up on him. He didn't say he could find a better sub for $50. He was just saying it's wrong to sell broken gear.

    Organ -

Trust me, if I thought the M&K had ANY AT ALL less performance with one driver power than two drivers powered - I wouldnt have EVER*** sold it to her.

She knew the driver was blown. I gave her a fair price. All is well.

    Russ,
How in the world do you plan to exactly take a passive radiator and put it in there and expect that to work better than the driver M&K provided???

The bottom driver offers little SPL and extention help plugged up. They mounted the thing with absolutely no bottom plate to fire into, basically fires into the floor (the woofer firing into the cabinet, into a butt load of polyfill, with the magnet facing the floor) - with gaping holes in the front and back and contributes little to no SPL advtange plugged up and unplugged. My Dad has the same subwoofer laying around here and has no more DB difference the one I had, driver unplugged or plugged up. Heck, the true test would be to unplug his bottom driver and read it out with a SPL meter.

Either way, the subwoofer puts out the same SPL, hits as low as it did plugged up as it did unplugged. You are talking to a SPL fanatic here, if it lost SPL when I blew it - it would have been replaced within a month easy. Just like the forward firing driver when I replaced it. It just dosn't make a difference, I hit insane amount of levels in my room with that subwoofer.

You may think it is bad to sell broken gear, but the thing operates just as it did with a powered bottom driver. If anything, it works better as it frees up the amp to concentrate on the forward driver. The thing distorts and waffles ALOT less than it does with the bottom driver plugged up.

There are just so many things about that subwoofer with age and everything else -

Bottom line is, you havn't heard it. You havn't owned it. Either way, for 50 bucks - it is a deal. With one unplugged driver - or both working. It is a deal.

But oh well, as you said - next.

It sounds, operates, the same as it did when I gained posession of it 2 years ago. I am sure it has many many more years to come - and when she plans to sell it, I plan to buy it back, the same with the Polk RT35i - they were my first speakers, and when she plans to upgrade I will be first in line to buy em back.

You may think I ripped her off, but I dont see it - Just don't see it.....

I am going over to her house this weekend for the DJ thing -- while I am there I will plug up the bottom driver and let her hear it, the thing isnt actually BLOWN - it just sounds like a M&K driver...

If you've heard them things, you know what I mean. (Not saying they are completely bad or anything, they just waffle at louder volumes) - isnt really audible how I have it setup in her room, in the corner...) The bottom driver waffles alot more than the top driver - Thats why I unplugged it to start with.....

Des, I should be home around 6-7 oclock tommorow after we get done with painting the trim in this house, what are you doing around that time?

    Goodnight folks...

    Sid,

You are acting like such a dunderhead, I can't even deal with it. Try using you head for something other than a hat rack, and maybe things will start to make sense in your little audio bubble.

I COULD help you understand, but I flat out don't have the energy. You just don't get 'it', and I'll leave it at that. Too much energy and time expended already.

I'm having flashes of your first post re: the JVC boombox, I just can't go there, I thought you had 'evolved' audio wise to SOME degree. Apparently you still have more Cro-Magnon audio man in your blood than I thought.

I just don't know what to say anymore on this one. You're officially on your own.

    Cheers,
    Rooster
