I bought a psw10 and it worked great until one day i plugged it up and it would only play at max volume and even then it would cut out in some frequencies

Yes, PSW10 can easily be outperformed my many relatively inexpensive modern subwoofers. Check out RSL's Speedwoofer 10E. It will obliterate the PSW10 for only ~$350 with tax.
