radio in speakers when watching sat TV

A friend of mine asked me why he hears radio braodcast in his speakers whn he watches sat.tv. there is no connection for radio hooked up why would this happen ?

Not to sure,but I know with my sony tv you can change in the menu from stereo to sap which is like listening to a radio broadcast thru your tv.might be worth a try.

no it's opposite, he watches tv but gets background radio in his speakers and doesn't want this to happen it's some kind of interference, just not sure how it happens or what to do about it

Hello,
That might be a difficult situation to cure. The first step is to try and determine how the RF (radio frequency) is getting into the system. I need to know a few details about what is going on:
1). is the RF there on every channel of the satellite dish receiver or only a few of the stations?
2). does the RF strength change if the satellite dish receiver is moved or turned sideways?
3). what kind of connecting cable is used between the satellite dish and the satellite dish receiver? Meaning is it a shielded coaxial type cable?
If I know a little more I'll try and offer an opinion.

Here is the answers obtained from my friend :

To answer your questions, when I do notice
the interference it is noticeable on every station of the satelite. I have
never tried to move the satelite receiver or turn it sideways. As for the
cable, it is a standard coxial cable that runs from the satelite to a
splitter box in the basement, which then runs to the outlet by my TV. From
the wall to the satelite receiver I am using a standard cable, nothing
special.

I need to upgrade my cables, whether it be all of them or just some, I guess
that is the real question. It is funny though, I have not noticed the
interference in a little while. One more thing, I think I already
mentioned to you that when I use my speakers on the computer, which includes
a sub-woofer the interference is present there and is much stronger.

many satellite receivers use a small UHF antenna to to give the remote control extra range...

I doubt that's the issue, but try removing that antenna (the remote will still work via infrared) and see if it makes a difference.

If his set doesn't have an antenna on the receiver, then disregard...

This sounds to me like the receiver. Most decent to better receivers don't "bleed over" (I think this is close to the right term for this) from one setting to the other. You have the FM signal coming in all the time and while on another position on the selector you are listening to another signal, and what is happening is the FM signal is crossing over to the sat or whatever position. Try hooking up another source such as DVD or CD and se if this crosses over.
This is just my opinion about this and I am NOT an electronics tech, but I think this makes sense. I have had this to happen to me in the past and I always thought it was just a matter of quality of the components and the isolation of one source from another.

thanks why I think it's odd is because it does this on his computer speakers as well...not sure if its a filthy power source all of the above posts would make sense if it would just be his main system but his computer as well ???

I think a power conditioner might be a good idea too and if it does nothing back to the store it goes..Ill let him know thanks !!

when i bought my satelite dish/receiver it wouldt work without using a rg6 cable from the dish to the receiver.then from the receiver to a spliter with standard coaxial cable.or maybe try changing the transponder in the sat/receiver menu.
