Finally tidied er up

I've had my RT5000-based 7.2 channel setup for a while now, but ever since we've moved into the house in 2015, the room has admittedly been an absolute disaster. As an example: 10 year old me decided hoarding 114lbs of copper coaxial cables was wise, and now that I'm damn near 20 I figured out stuff like that was the cause of the mess.

Packed a RAV4 to the brim, seats down, took it to a waste management facility, and the mess is gone... Forever.

So, now I get to enjoy a tidy home theatre room! I figured I'd share some pictures of what it's looking like so far!

I know the shelf objectively harms sound quality, but I decided the trade-off was worth it for the sheer storage capacity and organization. There is no spot for it otherwise.

New 75" 4K TV will be ordered Friday 😉

    Congrats on your tidy HT room. One suggestion, put a large rug over that hardwood floor.

    The idea is to help control the reverberation/echo. To test your room do the slap echo test. Stand in the middle of your room and clap your hands together sharply once. In a well damped room the clap sound will die immediately. That is with no reverberation/echo. In a lively room the clap sound will be sharp with a noticeable amount of reverberation/echo.

    You can go around to different rooms in your house and conduct the test to help understand the differences between a damped and lively room.

    That back wall screams for a 100" projection screen, but it looks like you are stuck with a thermostat and a few other things to prevent you going full width. Otherwise, welcome to adulting ;) Looks good.

    Yeah, 75" is pretty good. I actually missed his comment about the new TV because it was after the photos.

    Yes, they are. B) I still have my RT3000P fronts and center.

    The center speaker weighs 60 lbs. It's a beast for sure.

    The whole house was built to barely be legal back in 2008. I don't even know if a clap test is necessary... Voices will echo in the basement and even in my own bedroom.

    Thank you! It rocks! Unfortunately this one was damaged in shipping but I'm going to source replacement drivers and see if a loudspeaker specialist can repair the cabinet!

    I was considering a projector, but after factoring in every variable, including the big wooden electrical panel door— which limits me to 75" anyways, and it barely clears by an inch— it's actually cheaper for better picture quality if I go the TV route.

    Started it when I was 9 😁 I'm 19 now and added the Switch 2 and Paper Mario 64 within the last couple months!

It's hard to find a quality projector for much less than that...then add a screen, mount, long HDMI, etc. Unless you have total light control and paint the walls darker, a projector isn't always the best bet anyway. I've had the same 100" white screen since 2012, but if it were ever torn or if/when I move again, I probably won't take it with me.

    I'll also have to renovate the basement next year due to it being a DIY job from the old homeowners that is... Never passing inspection when my parents decide to sell the home.

    Would hate to put that all up just to tear it down a year later.

    Cost is really the biggest issue. $3K is USD... I'm in Canada. Saving up for a $20K+ car and college/university also prevents the TV from even being a fancy OLED as of now ☹️

    With that said, if I'm in this house long enough and I can afford it, a projector is absolutely something I'll consider!

    I wouldn't bother with a projector until you are through with education, gainfully employed, and have your own home that you plan to stay in for 10+ years.

    Though, owning a home in Canada seems like a pipe dream at this point 😂

    Yeah, I didn't realize how things had changed up there till I saw a video recently from YouTuber Bofang Chan called "How to Kill a Nation." I was kinda shocked how tough things are in Canada these days.
