Why in the world do speaker manufacturers still use Styrofoam to pack large speakers?
Ordered some Triangle Borea BR04 and they arrived today damaged.
Just a rant. Cut cost somewhere else, not packaging.

Dang Conrad, such a bummer to see that.
We used to feel good about shipping turntables years ago and they rarely arrived with damage.
What has changed since then? -
That sucks.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -

I've watched drivers walk across TV's, throw boxes hard enough to severely damage boxes. I video recorded one FedEx driver stomping on a TV box because it got in his way. Ridiculous!
Yes I work in shipping and receiving, I called our rep for a meeting and showed them several videos of different drivers abusing items from UPS, FedEx and DHL their all just as bad.

Dayum... this looks like the shipping companies outright mishandling of the package itself.

That's heinous.

Question, did you have it shipped to @Clipdat before it went to you?
The hard Styrofoam is definitely junk, no question.
The nice soft pliable stuff is wonderful though, can't imagine there's a significant cost difference though- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Looks like egregious mishandling of the package… 🤕
I once had a TV damaged in shipping, but much less than that. When I sent it back for replacement, the UPS driver (who was super friendly, and we always got the same guy) told me that he never buys his electronics online because he wouldn’t want them shipped by UPS! 🤣
Anyway, hopefully they’ll send you a replacement. 🤞Alea jacta est! -
Everything is automated now. Distribution warehouses are run on bar codes. Conveyors get clogged up and packages fall off the second floor tier like a multi-car pileup. First it hits the concrete floor, then other heavy boxes land on it. Then some high school kid picks them up, throws them on a cart and takes them back to the start to go through the maze of conveyors again.Gustard X26 Pro DAC

All the more reason to use something better than a Styrofoam cup.

This has always been the #1 reason for double boxing. Factory boxes and packaging were/are typically designed to go out in bulk freight from the manufacturer to a distributor on pallets, then from there also typically as freight to a dealer who sells them in person.
Today we have transitioned to more online sales, but it seems the manufacturers haven't updated the packaging. It's sad really. I have watched videos of boxes getting tossed around by shippers for 20+ years and have avoided United Parcel Smashers going back to 2005 when I received a package from them that had clearly been abused. Unfortunately, all the shippers are careless now. For many years, I argued that USPS handled them the most gently, but I can't say that anymore.
I guess the best way to avoid this is to make the seller guarantee double boxing, or buy in person. It seems the online vendors just build this amount of loss into their business model and that proves to be frustrating for the buyer.

Where did you order them from?

Rather not share at this time, but thanks.

It’s possible that 💲 for 💲 the sellers have decided that the occasional cost of a replacement product is cheaper than double boxing everything. 🤷♂️

Thanks, but isn't that what I already said?

In WTF universe is that a reality?

Uh, ok. Well I was trying to figure out if it was a retailer/dealer or a private individual. If it was the former, please keep us updated on how this unnamed retailer/dealer handles the situation for you. Thanks. -

I have nearly 40 year old apogee duetta 2 boxes in better shape than that, of course apogee used expanding foam.
