New speakers - Ascend Sierra LX

The Mrs. won her argument about downsizing...the VR2's are downstairs for now. With that, I bought my first ever brand new pair of speakers....the Sierra LX. It has been more than 20 years since I didn't have towers. I'm astonished at how low these can go (not as low as the VR2 obviously). I have dual SVS SB13 Ultras. However, they are hooked up for theater only at the moment.

Ascend has a 30 day demo, and I'll fully put these through the paces and report back. Thus far, there's definitely a noticeable uptick in detail.

    Congrats!

You absolutely need some foam isolation pads under them when putting on top of a cabinet to decouple them.

Thank you. I see Isoacoustics makes small pucks for bookshelves...any advantage to either? The stand my wife picked out is a bit more than 8ft wide...so conducive to having them there.

Ha! She definitely does enjoy it during movies (she's never used it for music). I was due to try something new. I'll put my vr2's downstairs. I'm sure she hates the svs subs.....but she'll live!

If it's a floor space issue you can go more vertically and add 6 more subwoofers to reach the recommended 8 for true satisfaction

Ha! She confessed that she just doesn't like the way speakers look in general...crazy talk. Maybe I should just get some giant Magnepans and call it a day

You'll also want to pull them all the way forward to the front edge of the table.

Thanks. I'll try that. I ordered some Isoacoustics mini pucks. I liked what the Gaia did for my VR'2 previously.

Test the waters & just do it. My wife had a hissy fit when she first saw the Maggie 1.7i's. Now fast forward a few months & she absolutely loves them when listening to a movie & also acknowledges how music has taken on a whole new dimension.

    I’m sure you’ll like them , they’ve gotten some great reviews !
I have a pair of the Ascend ELX Ribbon’s and love them.
That’s them next to the Salks when I first got them last year ….

I am really liking them so far. The level of detail is awesome, and they have great bass for a smaller speaker. Now my question is....if I want to hook up my SVS subs to them, how do I do that with my Cary integrated for 2 channel AND my AVR for home theater? I've read about mini-dsp...but lack understanding. There was a time when I considered myself on top of these technology wise...

Curious , did you consider the Sierra-2EX V2 with the RAAL ribbon tweeter?

I did. I had a conversation with Dave, and he recommended the LX given my uses. He did recommended a ribbon when I add a center.

    Dave’s a class act ! He didn’t try to up-sell ‘ya ….
Great speakers that punch way above their price point - I can’t tell ya how good my ELX’s are … Endgame speakers , and my Salk's are phenomenal- that’s how good the ELX’s are …

Congrats and enjoy , you prob won’t find better at that price , or above , within reason .

Using the isoacoustics pods to raise the speakers made a tremendous difference in bass output and high end detail. Thank you for the recommendation!
