Left channel issue

As I mentioned in my power cable thread, I’m having an issue with my CDP/dac. A Norma Revo-DS1.
It’s not really static, but more so seems to be distortion in the left channel. It’s not terrible, but too bad to listen to. Seems to affect the highs more than the mids or lows. Here’s a pic. Nothing obvious to me, but that’s not surprising. Thoughts?

I'll give it a go.
- Have you changed cables? Im guessing RCA?
- Did you move left to right and right to left? Did it follow?

Does anything happen when the RCA's or XLR's are installed, the CDP is playing and you wiggle the L channel connection?
I too see nothing obvious.

It’s definitely the left channel RCA output causing the issue. I’ve gone so far as to take the CDP to my HT and the issue remains. Currently have another CDP and cheap DAC in my 2 channel and everything is working.
I don’t have any XLR to try out.
I haven’t wiggled the RCA’s while they are input and a cd is playing…yet. I will now though.
Only changes I’ve made to the system recently are switching out PC’s. Haven’t touched any other cables.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
If nothing happens when you wiggle the IC, swap the output IC connections (L&R). Does the issue remain on the L channel?

Wiggling does nothing. I’ve changed RCA output, speaker cables…everything you can change. Issue remains in the left channel output.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Hmmm, are you comfortable removing the main board?

Tom
I was thinking about that when I had the top off today. With it being, for me, an expensive piece of equipment, I’m not sure I’m comfortable doing too much.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Understood. You are up in the NY/Long Island area, right?

Reflow the solder joints for the left channel RCA jack.Political Correctness'.........defined

Do you have any way to check the output through the balanced connection? It that works, definitely focus on the solder connections for the RCA. Reflowing the correct way will require the board to be removed.
If the balanced has the same issue, then it's more complicated and I'd probably advise taking to a repair shop.

Probably headed to a repair shop as I don’t feel comfortable working on it. My soldering skills are, um, not great.
Wish I had XLR to connect. I thought about doing that as well. Also, if it worked I wouldn’t necessarily have to have the RCA repaired. Not right away at least.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
These don't look particularly healthy?
- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
These don't look particularly healthy?
Those look like that from the factory.

Didn't check fuses. I thought if a fuse went bad, it just wouldn't work. I'll check them later. Just ordered some cheap XLR to test with. If they work, I'll probably buy a good pair of XLR and hold off getting the RCA fixed until I can deliver the unit to the Dallas area instead of shipping it. Of course, if I find a bad fuse, I guess it's a moot point.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

This post is more appropriate for the “You Know You’re Getting Old” thread because I forgot that one of the XLR on my integrated doesn’t work😳. So…so much for that solution. Checked the fuses and they all look good.Post edited by PSOVLSK onThings work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden
