My Monitor 70 series 2 very weak highs

Hi, I've had my Monitor 70 Series 2's for a long time. I noticed recently that the treble is very weak. Spec sheet says 8 ohms impedance but I checked both with ohmmeter and they are at 4 ohms. Is my tweeter blown out -- bass is coming thru fine but highs are very muted.

    You measured resistance not impedance.

Is the issue with both speakers or just one?

  • Both speakers. Resistance impedance essentially the same. YES I know the difference.

Are the tweeters working? Play some mono music (that has highs of course) and listen to each one with a paper towel tube between your ear and the tweeter in question.

DC resistance measured with a multimeter across the binding posts is always less than the impedance, which you need special equipment to measure. You aren't measuring anything in the tweeter circuit with DC resistance measurement across the binding posts because the capacitor in series with them doesn't pass DC current.
