FREE Phase Linear stereo in New Mexico

Well, after 14 hours of driving I have the Phase Linear system at my place.

MUCH THANKS to Rocky for his incredible graciousness!!! That Willy and the Poor Boys CCR SACD is on it's way.

I'll spend time this week cleaning the units and changing out fuses etc. I have a thread in Off Topic about what's the best way to clean these types of components (solvents, etc) so anyone with any info on that, lemme know. The last thing I wanna do is Windex things unnecessarily. (no armor-all comments needed.......I'm not sid)

I have the Phase Linear 400/4000 series 1 combo and the user manuals say to use a soft cloth and full strength ammonia for cleaning the brushed aluminum faces. Gets all that built-up gunk off.
Just be sure not to inhale it

BTW, which series are the amp/pre-amp? Rocky said 400b amp and 4000 pre , but then F1 showed a picture of the 400 amp series 1 and the 4000 series 2 pre.

The amp is actually the 400, not b, and 4000 series 1 pre, not series 2.....

Yeah....those are the same ones I have except my amp has more heat sink area......a slight revision to the original but still regarded as a series 1.
If you got the manual for the pre-amp you'll notice it says to keep the pre-amp 'OUTPUT' switch in the '-20db' position (vs the 'NORMAL' position) unless you're listening at a level where the volume knob is at or past the 12 o'clock position (at the
-20db output setting of course)....don't know exactly why.....probably just a protection feature so you don't blow out your speakers.

What Rocky said was that if you're running the system with the 'Normal' setting, you were running it at the full 200wpc, but if in the -20dB setting, you were only using the amps at 50wpc.

So Brett, if you think you'd want them I'd probably be willing to make photocopies of the manuals and send them to ya.
Here's what it actually says in the manual. I was off a bit.
"In the Normal Output (up) position, the preamp operates in a full and normal gain configuration. In the -20dB position, the output is muted approximately -20dB (duh!). The volume control is arranged in such a manner that extremely low level listening must be accomplished by depressing the Normal Output switch to -20dB, then using the volume control in the normal fashion. As a general rule, the Volume Control should be operated at or above the 10 o'clock position in the 'normal' setting. For lower volume settings, you should switch to the -20dB position and adjust the volume to the desired level. This arrangement allows a finer and more precise adjustment at very low levels than would ordinarily be possible."

lol.....I came back to the thread and it duplicated my post.......hate it when that happens....

Oh, and Rocky had all the original manuals so I don't need the copies......Thank You for the offer though.
