Damn today Liv4fam got into Dynaudio.A love we both share deeply.I was in his house when he opened up the center channel. It's front faceplate is now silver and he got them in cherry.Audience 122 center it is.I got to admit I felt butterflies and there not even mine.I don't know but man did it give it to me.
So then he opens up one of the mains which also have the new silver front and cherry cabnet.Audience 72's they are.I picked the speaker up and sat it in the front left position ready for floor spikes and hours of adjusting.I was going to stick around to here them go but It just wasn't in me.I was feeling well honestly jealous.I'll explain why in a minute. He also owns Rotel seperates in the rsp1066 and the rmb1075 which I also have been longing for over the years.

We a few days ago go up to our old job Soundex.Talked to everyone and then did our selves in.We listened to just about everything in the store.Dynaudio makes Incredible lines. In all my audio life,I never heard better speakers then Dynaudio at any level.I feel Dynaudio makes the very best of the best.I have heard just about everything made. After our rounds where done listening to everything(they have all high end gear) we ended our tour in the Evedience Tempation Krell room.Guys listen when I tell yeah, there is nothing on gods green earth that I feel sounds better then that.I popped in Norah Jones and sat in the ultra comfortable Theater chairs they had in there and listened to just about the entire Cd.I can't even begin to explain what I heard. It's an experience you just have to do on your own and feel how you feel about it.

So after all that,I feel so ....well more of a 2 channel guys then a theater guy.Yes I said that.My wants are so much more into music then movies. In about 3 weeks we are starting the basement.I'm still building the theater as planned. But I might do somethings different.2 channel first then theater sound 2nd.

Lots to think about and upgrade planning is on its way.

    Dan,

You mentioned it before, how difficult it is to put together a good system. Takes a long time to put together a system with the synergy and level of performance that you expect. With your job working in the audio industry you are exposed to a lot of great gear everyday. Kind of like a bank employee that handles thousands of dollars every day but goes home with a couple of hundred bucks in their back pocket for a day's work. This is just an analogy to put things in perspective.

Putting together a great Home Theater and two channel system with the same gear is even more difficult because of the price. We have similar rigs here at the time with the LSi 15 / B&K receiver setup. I find that it is a nice balance between the two, that being two channel and Home Theater all in one system. However, I have found joy in my seperate two channel systems for critical music listening. Not a bad option if you like music.

You have compared your system to some "reference" system now and feel an urge to upgrade. I hear ya this is a crazy hobby. How do you feel your setup in the theater will compare to the setup in your living room right now? Is the setup in your living room "too dead" for you? Maybe it will sound better in the theater and just build a two channel rig man. You're bound to have better bass and impact in the smaller theater room with the LSi 15 and without those tall cathedral ceilings.

I don't know. Just brainstorming here a bit with you. Also, I found that adding a sub and crossing over the LSi 15 at 80 hz helps with their transparency and resolves any lower bass issues that some folks have. I also have a nice cd player for two channel in the Jolida as a difference in what we may be hearing and a very lively room which I feel is a great match for what some call the "laidback" sound of the LSi. My room is anything but dead sounding with the LSi.

You will make the right choice man. I'd stick with the Theater plan that you have and see how it sounds down there first. The two channel setup would be easier to put together than an entire revamp of the theater as well, no?

You make alot of good points.

My planning is after the theater room is built.Actually I get a very pleasing sound in my livingroom. The room has nice acoustics even with the high ceilings.I do however get some reflection at high volumes up there.A slight echo if you will. But I don't listen at extreme volumes.I like it comfortable.Lately I listen to laid back music anyway so I don't rock my face off.

A 2 channel rig is also something I am considering.Leaving the theater alone and building a 2 channel system. As a theater system it's great.I'll add a sub when the room is finished. The wife is already unhappy with the theater system in the livingroom. She wants me to take out the Lsi15's and box them up,use the Polk Inwalls I have for multiroom.I refuse to do this. She feels they junk up the room. She can't wait until the room is done so I can get all my **** out of there and she can continue the decor.Women......

Yes being an Installer brings many advantages.I go to shows, get trained, see all the latest and greatest, have awesome relationships with other dealers, etc but the down side is the same.being around great gear kinda sucks 2.When you feel the upgrade bug,it just helps fire the desire hotter.

Honestly I'm somewhat happy with the Lsi and B&K overall performance.it sounds pleasing and balanced. After I added the Kimber 8tc 8tc bi wires, things got alot smoother and clear.Air if you will.

Years ago when I started building this system,I really was into the Dynaudio Audience line as well as Rotel.Things changed and I ended up with Lsi and B&K.For better or worse thats how it went.I made decesions and felt they where right at the time.Today I believe the 2 channel area is where I want Improving. So building a 2 channel rig even makes more sense.Figuring out what going to come together is another story all together.Kimber and Dynaudio are proven companies.Find the correct gear to run it will be the challenge.

    Time will tell

FWIW, I'm keeping HT and 2 Channel seperate. My HT for the moment is sounding good. Not as good as it could, but I'm sure we all feel that way. 2 Channel is where I'll be focusing over the next year. And, I know I can't fund the very nice, higher end stuff... but I plan on buying used, and I know its going to take saving up...... which I can't seem to do for chit. But I do want to have a system, that I can lay back and say WoW! I did that. Where I can say, Damn! that really sounds good. Not just having someone over and they say, Gee, nice system, really sounds great, and then I'm thinking, Nooooooo it don't.... ya know what I mean? :)
