Is there a fix for loss of high frequency/sound quality Monitor 60 Series II

I have a set of Polk Monitor 60 series II about 3 years old. During a loud (hi-volume) music CD playing, the sound went to not have highs and sounding muffled. I am guessing that perhaps tweeter failed, but not sure. I have a Sony Receiver STR-AV770 since the 90s which I think was around 8/10 on volume when sound quality diminished. Did I blow out these speakers?? My old set of Technics speakers had a reset button for this type of issues. Please advise. Thanks!

The general rule is never go past halfway on the volume dial. From what you described by having the volume level up way too high your AVR was distorting so badly that it sent clipped signals to your speakers. The result can cook the tweeters and/or resistors on the crossover boards.

You need to learn the limits of your gear.

@drbunn you will need to inspect the crossovers and test the tweeters separately.

Thanks a lot! Do you have any pearls of wisdom for checking the tweeters?
