Hey a positive review from Danny Ritchie, Polk was ready!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

There was some info in the introductory stuff from Polk on the Legend line that they went to extra effort to have the line measure well across the board.
FWIW, speakers costing two to three times as much use similar crossover components, which is to say none of them are expensive internally because hardly anyone ever looks. Polk also likely has the benefit of an economy of scale over most competitors because their builder does a comparatively large number of units. Unit costs go down because of that. A short run like the anniversary 50th version of the R200 has better parts inside and a nicer finish outside but the costs are quite a bit higher for marginal benefits in performance.
Imagine the cost a factory L800 crossover upgrade would do to retail pricing. LOL -
I was surprised he said only $500-ish to upgrade. Must be per speaker?

Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Keep in mind he sells diy kits versus assembled stuff. You will receive a bag of parts and a schematic.
I would also like to mention that while Danny does in fact know what he is doing, of course, he is reworking a speaker through measurements and zero listening into a critical 2 channel setting. I would caution by going this route because frankly if Polk wanted their speakers to sound like a Dannie Ritchie product they would have done it.
I have heard some Dannie Ritchie designed speakers and they were not for me personally.
Just tread carefully when severely altering a speaker in this manner.
I tell folks if you like the sound of your speakers now, you will really like an upgraded crossover. Quality parts elevates the performance, in general across the board.
With a crossover he is building, he is adjusting and changing the crossovers sometimes 100% thus drastically changing the sound to achieve a flat response.
I forget what company it was, but they went on the record that they used to design speakers for a flat response and eventually they started to design ones that actually sounded good.
Take it for what it's worth, Danny knows what he's doing, but if we all wanted studio monitor linear response we probably wouldn't own any of the speakers we own.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
He said the response was already very accurate and it was a complicated crossover network, which he would only provide the schematic of to those who purchased the upgraded components kit he will work up; tube connectors, internal wire, and crossover components. He said no redesign of the crossover was warranted.George / NJ

I'd like to upgrade the crossovers in the Wharefedale Lintons, from what you say, Trey. For as much as I enjoy the L series Polk speakers, the Lintons have been my just right porridge.
Re: upgrades, we've never really talked about this, but does anyone ever upgrade sub component for improvements? I know those are typically audio and amp circuits combined, but curious as to whether anyone's experienced benefits here.I disabled signatures. -

You won't like Dannie so much if you watch his review of the Wharfedales
I haven't considered electronic upgrades for my Martin Logan sub but I have tried moving the electronics to an exterior location to the enclosure. Didn't hear much difference but the next step would be to add some BH5 where the circuit board was located to see if it makes an improvement.George / NJ

Is it true, as Danny mentions in the video, that the woofers are stamped baskets in the L600?
-
Yes, this is common knowledge- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
