Which sub for Magnepan 1.6QR?
While I love my Mirage M3 speakers I would like to use my Magnepan 1.6QRs which require a sub. I had a B&W 10 inch I used with them a while ago and it was decent Acoustic suspension. I know someone will say REL. Not doing it. Not putting out that much as I may not use the1.6QRs that much. Staying in the $200 to $400 used range I have a few local choices from a dealer and friend. and others. Any thoughts on these? Thanks
B&W ASW 1000 12 inch
Def Tech Pro Sub 1000 10 inch Kind of like the idea of it having a passive verses just a port.
Paradigm PS 1000V3 I have heard it said this is not very tight but who knows.
Sunfire EQ Solitaire 10" Subwoofer
Polk 505 or 12
Mirage PS 12 90

The subwoofer models with the 12 inch drivers would be my last choices. Some people believe the best way to listen to music on Magnepans is without any subwoofer at all and if more bass is desired in a room get a model with a larger bass panel. I enjoy my 1.7i model both with and without a subwoofer. They'll never be as dynamic and cohesive with a subwoofer as a good box speaker is but they also do things no speaker anywhere near their price can do.

Amen to that^^.

The Sunfire EQ would be one I'd want to try out more than the others. The Polk, unfortunately, definitely not.

Honestly I think you'll be hard pressed to find a sub in that price range that will be able to run with your Maggies. Still might be worth a shot to find out."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up.

I would think you would want a swarm of subwoofers with a panel speaker.

I would go for the Pro Sub 1000.Dan

Not on your list, but in your price range:
1. Mirage BPS150i. Sealed, bi-polar dual 8 inch design. Very fast and musical, one of the best subs I’ve ever owned.
2. Martin Logan Dynamo (original), abyss or Grotto. You can get a dynamo for about 200-250 on eBay all the time. Sealed 10 inch (dynamo) with all the connections and a high quality crossover. Very fast and tight.
3. ACI Force or Titan. Probably my favorite of the bunch. All paper come woofers designed to be down firing and let gravity help out. When people say subs don’t have any particular sound, it’s because they’ve only heard crappy subs. The speed and more importantly texture on these is phenomenal.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

First, have to decide if I’m keeping the Rogue Cronus magnum two or keeping the three. Back in the day when I worked in the business, you were supposed to pick your speakers first. That’s not working out very well. Need to think.
