He does some gorgeous work but man, I want the pockets some of his customers have!

My first thought was $29,000 would buy a lot of other more needed things.
Then I mused, $29K would buy about how many used LP's? :)

^^^ That photo is from the web. My LP's are in ~40-42 full crates. I need a couple of Kallax units.

you're not far off that wall of records collection! nice.

that image is from an article on Medium. I read some comments below and one of the people says to look at the Kallax loading limits. I think some of this is mitigated by stacking, ie, addition of an extra layer between, if you go with smaller units. Idk, I've not used them, and this is just from someone on the web

I really need to thin the herd. Probably five crates of stuff I would never listen to again, low value easy listening, country, children's, and duplicates of common stuff. I'll be keeping original duplicates of Zappa, Zeppelin, Floyd, Beatles, Stones and the like for now.

I haven't decided on a location (best room) to locate one or more vinyl storage units. I've been thinking of splitting the storage up as I have two listing areas now on the main floor, living room and family room. Basement needs to be renovated as it's currently storage and home gym. I have a decent spare bedroom on the main floor 13'-6" x 12' I've been wanting to clean out and use with a small bookshelf speaker setup. A single guy can certainly amass a lot of stuff over the years! :)

A lot of LP collectors use Ikea Kallax storage cube units for LP storage. There are many videos on Youtube that show improvements that can be made to make them very sturdy and functional.

There are also other brands that have similar function such as BetterHomesandGardens that can be found at WalMart and elsewhere. I have one of the four cube units from them.

Got the IKEA Kallax and am very happy with it. Super-easy to assemble and more room than I was expecting. Their fabric boxes can be had in several colors to match your decor.

Yet another great recommendation from the gurus at CP.

I have had success with the Kallax. I found using the 1x4 and laying them down and stacking them to work really well. Never have to worry about strength in this configuration.

It's all good until your now X wife and her mom decide that they are going to rearrange furniture while you are away on a business trip and they move your Kallax record shelf in front of a baseboard heater and warp every record on the bottom shelf. Fortunately, that problem and her mom are no longer part of my life...

Is that a true story?!? That's almost as bad as having a kitten climb up your speakers, shredding the surrounds.

Do you still have those records? I sometimes wonder about groove damage in instances where warping is evident, though in cases of warped records I own, the warp doesn't seem to affect play. Curious whether they play okay. An edge ring works wonders here.

I'm guessing at some point the groove deforms as well, though.

100% true story. Unfortunately... I replaced the albums that I spin regularly, but not all of them. Most went in the dumpster :(

An Olympic weight plate type edge ring is best! 😝
