Yeah, unless there's some feature you want from newer versions. I typically try not to update firmware unless I need to. Every once in a while, I'll let it rip with LMS. I have had some issues a few times.
I feel the need to clarify here re: what I said about firmware updates earlier.

Security related items, firmware updates, yes, but not immediately. If not a "target", I try to wait a little while on some firmware to make sure it's stable. Sometimes you can end up worse off with rushed responses.

It's stuff that may change presentation or functionality that I prefer not to update without knowing exactly what the differences are going to be. This, unfortunately, means having to review Release notes and such. Or, sometimes, you just have to wing it and hope for the best.

Here's a specific refusal example - a Drobo storage appliance. I did a bunch of research years ago when I bought my Drobo. I tried a bunch of other similarly priced storage appliances from Western-Digital, QNAP, and Synology. They were wonky and slow. I went with the Drobo 5D USB3/Dual-Thunderbolt 3 option, because I could connect to a small dedicated computer and team two NICs (network cards) for increased transfer speeds. (I could also connect it anywhere if I needed to; didn't need network) There was nothing else at that time that offered 2Gbps connectivity, at least not at that SoHo type pricepoint. Those listed above tested suh-lllllow.

So - Drobo is out of business now. Further, they had a history of releasing some weird software and firmware updates. There's a software update and firmware update out there that my Drobo tells me is a recommended install. It's been hanging out there for a while. Years, maybe. I downloaded it just to have in case I ever need it, but I've not installed it, and do not plan to. The reason? There's no way to revert (at least not easily that I know of), and there's no longer any support. And it works just fine the way it is. And it's not a security risk. I power it up to do backups internally, and shut it down after.

This is one of the reasons I hate being forced to update phones as well. Always guaranteed to be something I dislike about it, and no way to undo.

Roku players and the streaming video apps? No choice on these, and they're all crap design now. Blows my mind what they're doing. These distributions make absolutely no sense. Agile development methodology? More like change for the sake of change with no Review stage, and it all sucks sacks.

George, is this in response to my post above yours?

If so, that's not just a web control, it's actually a Squeezebox Touch emulator of a sort - Squeezeplayer. It presents as another instance of a SBT in your LMS that you can sync, or use independently. It's handy if you have a desktop audio setup on your computer that you want to use with LMS.

If you decide to sync it, you'll likely need to play with the sync settings in the Settings > Player > Synchronize section in the LMS web control.

@msg Thanks, man. Me too! And the little WiiM is interesting as hell. I’m going to keep it and continue w the SB, as the WiiM, as far as I can tell, can’t stream my iTunes library, where my Apple Lossless files are stored. But it does play our Amazon prime music, which I don’t think the SBT can do.

I’ll share my thoughts after a rough AB test when I have time, but it is damned good to not only have music again, but to now have a backup device!

Oh ps- how would I download those logs?

    Good plan :)

I just had a look at a SBT, and I can see where you set the logging options on it, and there are a few network options, but not sure how to pull them.

Was just looking in LMS web console, and I can only see an option to view the server side stuff so far. I'd have to do some poking around on the slimdevices forum to see if anyone's posted on it.

I skimmed through a batch of server side logs, but I didn't see any SBT info in there. There are a bunch of options for logging. Loads. You can view the settings on your LMS by going into the Web Console > Settings > Advanced > then hit the dropdown and select logging. It will tell you where your logs are on your Mac. But I don't think this is going to provide any info on your SBT's wifi. Now I'm curious about my own...

Thanks Scott. I see the advantage now for someone who has a decent little nearfield system at their computer location, who also wants to use the sync features. If you don't need sync the desktop app would suffice.

Yes, that's right. And a user who does want to sync players, may not need to, or may not need to if the other player is out of hearing range.

There is another feature of LMS that I haven't completely explored, so I don't understand it. But there is a built-in instance of a Squeezeplay, I believe. I first discovered it as an extra player showing up in my Players list after hearing a shadowed audio signal on the desktop computer system that I was using the SBT Squeezeplayer app on. Basically two signals, two players playing through the system at the same time. I don't recall what it is or when it runs or how to control whether it is available, because I was using the SBT Squeezeplayer at the time so I could easily view what was playing.
