2A vs 1B

What are the performance differences (comparison-contrast) between the SDA 1B and 2A-is one considered preferable overall (understanding subjective preferences)-Thanks

    Same generation of SDA speaker.

The 2B is considered very coherent and preferable to the 1 series (at least in average/small rooms) around here. I've never heard one. I don't know about the 2A--never heard one of them, either.

Aside from not being able to use non-common-ground amplifiers, and a preference for additional treble volume, I'm really happy with my re-capped 1Bs. And the treble issue is fixable if I wasn't so lazy.

Although I've not heard one I'm basing my judgment on myself having SDA 1 A's. I would think the SDA 1b would have better bass. I've had the SDA 2a, I completely recapped and went through the crossover adding Sonicaps, Axon and Mills resistors. I personally always thought they were a brite speaker. I didn't however put in the RD-0194 tweeters. With the SL2000 they were very in your face. The bass was not as deep as my SDA 1a speakers, once again crossover completely re-done with all Sonicaps.

The 2A's are not bright after you change the tweeters, plus you can use RD0198 with the added cap just like the 2b.

No inductor change to use the 5.8 cap? I thought you had to.

I was aware of the possibility only after I had finished and already spent a ton on two set of speakers.

I didn't see any inductor change in westmass guy's 2A TL mod thread. They RD0198's sound great in my 2A's.

Compare the schematics for the high-pass on both Ivan. The only difference is an additional padding resistor in series with the 0.4uf 2nd order shunt bobbin inductor on the 2B. Otherwise they're identical. I've done the tl modification on dozens of 2As and 1986 CRS=s, including my own.

I did after @invalid made mention, either way you had done yours years after I did mine. They were long gone from my home at that point. The member who ended up with them has moved on as well. I need to get over to Indy and pick up the mw6510's to keep as spares for the 2.3tl's 😉
