Saw the summit… now coming back to earth

Saw and heard the summit today. Now I know what I’m missing and how far the gap is. I brought one of the other club members with me… so I could rotate out and take a break from the intensity.

With all the money spent on audio gear you would think they could afford to replace that old rug. :o

Congrats, I bet that was quite the experience! Those are some of the most impressive speakers on the planet, imo.

I have been in my listening room now since after dinner since I got home… it is 356am, been here since 11pm. I’ve fallen asleep a few times only to wake up to music.

I am still processing what I experienced. So weird and surreal.

I don’t know how best to put it but I feel shell shocked.

Oh you mean that imported $125k Persian Isaac One of a kind Rug?? Worth more than any rig or rigs all together than I’ll ever own?? Meh.. I think he’ll keep that rug right where it is! Plus it acts as an additional sound treatment! (And looks amazing) Carry on with what else you think that they can’t afford 🤔

Guys, we don't need to bring this thread down too.

Joey, where did you hear this system? I'd like to hear it.

This looks like a good fit for the audio exotics thread! Wow! Someday, I would love to experience music on a system of this caliber! Certainly not within my means to own such gear, but I'd be happy to hear it on someone else's dime 😀

    @treitz3

    This was in Dallas

The owner of the system wanted to meet me first before I could bring the entirety of the audiophile club over.

I honestly am shell shocked and while there are things I would definitely change if it were my own set up, if you let go of your own personal biases and just let the ride take you down the track… imagine yourself next to a Chris Harrison in a Bugatti or a Huayra… just let it rip.

I sat there at times… completely blown by just the detail and inner resolution.

Then the bass…. Just punches you in the throat.

Is this cat a member over at the WBF? If so, would you be so kind as to PM his handle?

I love that isolation transformer......I cringe at looking the cost up though. I'd like to add one to the new room if the budget allows but those toys do not come cheap. Knowing what I know, that system had to sound incredibly clean.

I'd like to come down next year and plan some extra time to hear Josh's, Todd's and this rig, if possible. The only crap they play on Magico's at audio events is the easy "audiophile" stuff that a pair of bookies could easily handle. BORING. I'd actually like to hear a set of Magico's play something worthwhile of what they actually are.

Dual midbass drivers and dual woofers per speaker has to bring the thunder

Makes the grandes look like toys

    Love it

Needs 4 sources for amplification, outboard crossover allows you to cut or add gain to either lower or upper half of each tower

You can dial it to exactly how you like

I understand the use of toroidal transformers in audio components to reduce EMI, but I question the need for a toroidal in applications like this. I'd be curious to hear an A/B comparison of a standard frame isolation transformer versus this one. Especially since the transformer is in a steel enclosure that is bonded to Earth. It looks cool though!

Magico had a set up at Axpona before COVID, 2019. It was set up in a HUGE hallway just outside of the link between buildings. They cranked that sucker up and their sub's just took absolute control of the buildings outside windows. I thought for sure they were going to crack one.
It impressed me how the speakers and sub energized that entire area.
    Jaw dropping!

Honestly, it is mostly the fact that you can get more transformer per sq ft like this. And then you have better efficiency, lower leakage flux, little to no potential audible vibration, less susceptible to core saturation from offset...you get the idea.

    This isn’t a “personal system”.

    It’s technically a dealer’s system

It’s hard for me to describe how I feel about that system. It’s not a simple answer from me. I’ve had several club members and friend call me to get my opinion as I cannot relay it sufficiently over text

I would venture to say that (realistically) 1M may be a little low for that system....not including the room build.

Those speakers are ugly for that kind of coin... At that level I expect the artistry of the cabinets to be equal to the performance. They need to stir my soul before they begin to sing, in much the way a Ferrari catches your eye and commands your attention even before you turn the key.

The cabinet design is purposeful though, John. If you look at the baffle? There are no reflection points to radiate unwanted reflections off of. Most everyone knows by now what Magico does to the internal bracing of their speakers and it's nothing short of state of the art.

They may look ugly to you but I believe when you hear a speaker with this type of design parameters, the ugly duckling (as you say) will turn into the golden goose, if you will.

There is a lot of science and R&D put into these huge aluminum crafted speakers. I've seen many more that are...perhaps not ugly, but definitely strange. Think....

    5eyzn97t4vdf.png

Speaking of strange....we are used to them but looking back through history, I would consider these "not so good looking"....

    3h1nyezd2nr0.png

But they sound so good! (at least the lower photo....I haven't heard the upper photo (yet)) With that said, THIS is what I would consider utt buckin' fugly!
