Widespread faucet fix

The thing is: builder grade 30-40 years ago was probably better than builder grade today. What I just removed was likely builder grade in the mid '80s, but it was 100% metal (brass and copper). The failure point was the rubber bushings where the short copper pipes went into the valves.

The builder grade I'm re-installing has a lot of plastic. Since I have three bathrooms with identical fixtures, I'm going to replace all three before another failure occurs. If I were planning to stay in this house, I'd definitely seek out better quality fixtures. The future owner may want to update the entire bathroom, so I'll let them decide for themselves what to install long-term.

That's exactly what I was thinking regarding old school quality and replacement parts. There seem to be standard faucet models that house flippers in my area like to use that look really good in the short term and still get the job done for a few years.

I wouldn't DREAM of cooperating with plumbers or foundation repairers.

Also, saying that you are "satisfied with pipe placement" is wrong and it is against the rules.

I've used Shark-Bite fitting on 1/2" copper to PEX repair at an older home I had. Lasted 8 years till I sold it.

Just remember that shark bites fittings do not maintain grounding bonds... Granted you used pex which doesn't either but you should strap copper piping with a grounding wire if adament on using those fittings

Is that why the copper/brass crimp rings on PEX corrode and go bad quickly?

I'll be using all white PEX with expansion fittings on our new home.

A few folks I know, myself included have had the blue and red UPONOR brand PEX spring leaks.

I read the post manfr. process to apply the colored dye causes it to leave the factory with defects/brittle.

In my experience it depends on your water.

At my house, I installed pex maybe ten years ago and have no issues I've seen.

I've seen some houses where they are falling apart because of highly corrosive water, usually well water.

Copper piping is not a whole lot better, you see alot of copper with the red and green dots, it takes longer but it is the same issue truly.

That is why you see the typical life span of copper is considered 75 years.

Side note, grounding bond doesn't go to pex since the chance of the piping becoming electrified is non existent and grounding the fittings to reduce c corrosion would be impossible.

You could also use plastic fittings to help with corrosion

And no showers during thunder/lightning storms! Do we really need to state this?
Frankly, you should be busy unplugging precious audio gear during a severe storm.

Evidently! You know just like the hair dryers that say do not use while showering.... You know at least one idiot did that.

We live in a society where a plastic bag says don't put on your head or in a crib with infants.
