No and yes. I owned them prior to him. Many (well, maybe one or two owned them prior to me). At the time? They were THE most highly modded 1C's...

Let me put it to you this way....If the tops and bottoms were piano black? Probably. If not, then you are well on your way to surpassing what we had at the time.

These initially were stock except for someone who lined the inside of the enclosure with dynamat and I cussed at them while removing it.

I was wondering what all that black stuff was.

  • Impecable work and thread!
"Sometimes you have to look to the past to understand where you are going in the future"

“Fa sol sol la la fa sol la ... " ~ a soul-stirring sound that is at once alluring and haunting surges through the room as their voices rise and merge. First they sing the notes, then the words from the Sacred Harp hymnal, which was first published in 1844. Sacred Harp a singing tradition that dates back nearly to the founding of the nation.

  • Works of art crossovers as usual!

What do you think that dynamat, which is reflective rather than absorbent, would have been doing to the sound quality vs. bare particle board or mdf, which is pretty darn reflective as well?

    Thanks guys

Honestly I'm not sure what the thought rationale behind lining the enclosure with dynamat was but it was very difficult to remove lol

  • I don't know if it would have any benefit on panel resonance for MDF but I can definitely see that if you did it you wouldn't want to cover up the grooves that Polk put in the panels, presumably to break up the standing waves?

Yeah the Monoque design of the latter series was to break up standing waves and the shapes are different to alter resonant frequencies. See how the side walls have no horizontal tracks where as the back does, etc
