Hello everyone,
my lack of interest in gear, audio, or any of my other hobbies was really tarnished by Covid. I got sick back in December 2021 and have been recovering ever since. 11 very long months of pain suffering and anxiety due to it and so many things that has changed.
I'm probably 80% better now but still have some things lingering but I manage. I try so hard to get back into my hobbies, it's really hard as I feel things don't matter anymore, my health and living , things we take for granted are now my focus. Anxiety strikes me when I try to listen to music, especially if there are many memories connected to it. For instance, my Partner Mark, some of you remember him as liv4rfam , he use to post in here many years ago, died in a Bike crash. The playlist him and I built to demo speakers gear etc now has good and bad memories attached to them. It makes me sad inside as he died and this music meant a lot to both of us. Covid made me more sad as my chest hurts when I try. I don't want to be doom and gloom just painting a picture of why I'm not around posting like I use to. I miss you guys alot and miss this hobby. So I'm doing my best to get back into it as my passion is still there just so tarnished by Covid.
Anyway I was inspired twice in 2 days now, one by the SVS speaker cable post, great review on those cables, well written and I enjoyed it the best I could. Then I did another thing , I stopped by my old job , Audiolab. I wanted to say Hi to everyone who still works there and see some Reserve series speakers. They where sold out on the Reserve , but they had L800 and L600's on the floor. The L800's are stupid big and pretty impressive BUT not for me. I'm not into huge giant speakers. The reserve is what I want to listen to . They are getting more in and they talked about how good they are, Which is cool as they are some hard core audiophile people. I feel pretty much at home there and wonder why sometime why I didn't stay. More on that another time.
So lets talk about the cables. Type 9 is a much improve version of the Type 4's that came out many years ago, decades really. Audioquest made some nice improvements on these cables, larger gauge , better materials , better separation , well I'll leave a link you can read all about them and what they did.

I have had many Audioquest cables over the decades I have been using them. I locked into the brand and found a home here. They never let me down ( except on one model cable I can talk about in another thread if anyone wants to know ). They have been building excellent cables for many years and I only really like 3 brands of cables that are on the market. Audioquest, Kimber Kable and Cardas. These brands I find excellent. All others I'm not a fan , not into network bricks , batteries ( even though I enjoy Audioest, to a fan of the battery technology, I find it **** ).
Anyway the Type 9's are a tell it like it is cable, just like most everything Audioquest builds. There is no color, no jazz , no sparkel , no magic , no things to change your systems sound. They do not EQ your sound so this cable is purchased to allow you to hear your speakers, Amps, Pre and source as they should. Not doctor them in the way the company wants you to experience their version of a EQ cable. I'm no fan of it , lost interest in that pursuit many years ago. I got really sick of synergy and all that madness. When you have access to as many brand cables as I do, you go down rabbit holes that have no bottom, it drives you insane trying to figure out what works with what, how this cable can help or hinder your sound Blah Blah Blah. I was done with it once I locked into Audioquest.
What I really enjoy about the Type 9 is they don't sound much different them my Rocket 44, my Rocket 33, the older Type 4 , all my previous cables. I don't have to worry about if I'm gonna ruin or improve my overall sound. I get what I get and I'm happy with that.
So of you probably think that is boring, uninspiring and no drive to get new cables. Well your probably right, I can stop buying cables 500 cable ago and still be very happy with the overall performance of my system. I have Rocket 44's in wall to run all my surround speakers. I have it ran to my Center channel which is on wall. Probably way overkill but I don't care.
The Type series is nice as it's a round design vs a oval kinda flat design like the Rocket series is. If you sat down , listen to both styles of cables, you will be extremely hard pressed to hear the small differences between the 2 different designs. I'm not here to fluff this review to steer you into a cable you may or may not like. If you like your cable to give you the impression of more bass, more Mid's or calmer or brighter highs, then you should not buy Audioquest speaker cables. But if you want to experience your system exactly how it is supposed to sound, then it's not a bad idea to give Audioquest speaker cables a try. The Type 9's are not cheap, I have 7 foot single ended , Banana banana Silver which go for around $800.00 a pair. Yeah not for everyone one but it seems like cable prices have increased in price. Kinda sucks for those younger guys who are exploring speaker cables and want to experience what differences they can or can not make.
So I have them in my system for quite some time now, just hooked them up, didn't sit down and swap in and out some of my older cables or anything. I got them, Hooked them up and didn't pay them any attention until today after I was at Audiolab and had some inspiration to play around. I enjoy the Type 9 cables , I like the design , I like the neutral sound and I'm looking to get into some new speakers at some point to spark more desire to play. I'm currently trying to demo the Reserve line, I have Monitor audio in my back pocket and can pull the trigger on them at any time, I like Revel and even the new JBL line which kinda shocked me how good they are.
I snapped a few pics of the cables, I took them out of the system so you can see them on the floor, I also took a few Installed.

Your SVS thread helped me man. I need inspiration as my level of care for all my hobbies is so low. I have been wanting to seek out new speakers as I haven't done that is so long. I really wanted to get behind the Reserve line, affordable and the reviews are awesome. World Wide Stereo near me carries them so I gotta get over there. This is always an issue for me , I like to demo the speaker at a dealer before I bring it into my home. I know an in home demo would be much better but before I put in all the effort in un boxing, setup and calibration I need to first like the speaker enough to put out all that effort. Especially now, I'm not young anymore.

Ya know Dan, for as long as you've been in this hobby it's surprising that you haven't figured out that every piece of gear, every cable, every room and yes, every recording is colored in one way or another. To think otherwise is very naive.
What you have found is a colored sound that pleases your ears, which basically is the goal. My ears do not like the colored sound of your choice in cables just like you don't like mine. I'll leave at that.Political Correctness'.........defined

Kinda like how some people prefer silver speaker cables vs copper?

Interesting. 🤔
I agree it is empirically true that all audio playback devices are inherently colored in some fashion.
There’s always room for the disclaimer “to my ears”. When not expressly stated, hopefully that is implicitly understood among audiophiles.
That’s not the same thing, however, as recognizing that a SET or most other tube amps, for example, will result in wilder frequency response variations of the connected speaker, as opposed to many solid-state amp counterparts.
Point being that there are certain “colorations”, or departures from neutrality, that may be specifically avoided.
Yet we can still recognize that not all solid-state amplifiers sound the same (“colorations”), even if they may avoid frequency-response variations in a speaker equally well when compared to their tube counterparts.
Therefore, some things may be objectively considered to be more neutral than others, while simultaneously, not being absolutely neutral. Even if there were such a thing, I doubt anyone would be able to prove it.
Yet it seems that most audiophiles do relate to some concept of neutrality relative to cool/warm sound and legato/staccato (to borrow from reviewer, Srajan Ebaen’s, analogy).

Thanks. I did not listen to the L800 or L600. I got caught up catching up with my old boss. I do plan on getting my ears on them at some point. I heard the L200's , I had them here on the demo program. I left a review.Dan
