Bass garbled on Polk 200 Patio Speakers

Hi all, I've got the Polk 200 Patio Outdoor speakers connected to an Onkyo TX8511 receiver. (100 watts, 2 channels, 8 ohms).
Additionally, there are Line Out RCAs from the Phono port on the Onkyo to the Line Out on a Sonos Port. Then an RCA cable from the Line In to a Pyle PP999 pre-amp Line Out.
When volume is high, the bass sounds horrible. Like garbled, farting noises. I can't figure out if this is because of the speakers, the receiver (yes, I know it's from 1998 and cheap), the preamp, or some setting on Sonos. (Although I've played with the settings on Sonos and nothing has worked.)
Appreciate the help.

The 200's are a 5" midwoofer with frequency less than 60hz. These are background speakers not party speakers. Likely bottoming out and if they are old and outdoors, they are worn out2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures
Desktop rig: LSi7, Polk 110sub, Dayens Ampino amp, W4S DAC/pre, Sonos, JRiver
Gear on standby: Melody 101 tube pre, Unison Research Simply Italy Integrated
Gone to new homes: (Matt Polk's)Threshold Stasis SA12e monoblocks, Pass XA30.5 amp, Usher MD2 speakers, Dynaudio C4 platinum speakers, Modwright LS100 (voltz), Simaudio 780D DAC

I don't understand the two line out connections. If the Onkyo is powering the speakers and it's really Sonos to line IN on the Onkyo, try another line in input. Phono will be amplified more I think, won't it?
Path is typically described from source to destination.
My first thought was blown speakers.I disabled signatures. -
The phono RCA connections are inputs, same for the CD. Do not use the phono input for anything other than a turntable.Political Correctness'.........defined

Your best connection with the Sonos is going to be digital....from the Sonos to the Onkyo, leave the Pyle out of the equation. Get yourself a decent digital coax cable.HT SYSTEM-
