plastic_avatar - you may want to consider a whole house surge protector. That's what I'm considering. They are about the same price and the same basic principle - and the whole house is protected.

Those look very interesting. Another good surge protection is solar. Someone in our neighborhood has solar with backup batteries, and since they're off grid, they haven't been hit by any power surges the rest of us have been. It's quite crazy to think about -

Well you can get power surges from solar panels, while your gear is usually safe from them the roof of your residence is not. A ton of folks have done solar in my area over the years and I'm about to as well. There has been 3-4 instances where the panels have flaked out and burnt the roof pretty darn good. One instance was a high school last May near the end of the year. It was a $300,000.00 roof, solar panel repair. The other houses were nearly totaled due to the amount of water put onto the roof structure. -

Ive heard of this happening though correct me if I'm wrong but it's quite uncommon? I'd assume a higher power system would also be at a higher risk of the panel catching fire.
Our neighborhood had a wildfire destroy half of it, we got back and like 20 people got solar panels installed within a few days. Someone on Facebook said they did it so when the lines were cut they'd still have power. Wait until they discover they need a battery for that LOL -
True it is not common BUT it does happen. Like anything else if it does happen it happens BIG.
Correct if the power is out unless you have a storage battery or natural gas generator you're out of juice too.
Those batteries are not cheap in the least. My solar company that's doing my solar panels gave me an estimate on the battery and about fainted. LoL He also told me that the batteries don't last near as long as the solar panels do so where I will get 20-25 years out of my solar panels the battery may only last 10 to 12 yrs. -

Good question.
[thinks]
If a model mod who mods groups on mods mods (or mods mods) they might be more trustworthy than a mod who is never moved to mod or mod mods.
So, the answer is yes.
Though... mods can be fickle and troublesome things.
So, yes. The answer is still yes.

Solar = I wish I could justify it. I'd rather do wind, but the neighbors would go nuts.
If I still lived out in the hills, hydro.

I'm looking at the Bad Wolf Surge Protector 240VAC 65kA. It's a newcomer brand to compete with Eaton, but made in USA and Veteran owned. The unit itself is $99 plus the cost of a 20A 240V breaker in your main panel, plus the cost of having a qualified electrician install it. If the unit ever actually trips due to surge, it must be replaced (it fried itself to save your electronics). -

I'd have to agree with F1nut if you want the whole gamut of power conditioner and EMI/RFI Noise Filter, along with the surge protection - go with SurgeX. However for my budget setup, straight grid power works fine and I can live with an occasional artifact in the sound stream. All I want to do is prevent my gear from being reduced to junk and the associated hassle of filing a claim, etc. So for me whole house makes sense.

I have a series of not-the-best line conditioners/surge protectors to keep me safe(r) until I get something better.
I put a new pair of Daytons in the 5(B). We like them so much better than the 194. I know, controversial, but it's what we like.
Keith Don't Go (live), Living for the City, and No One Dies From Love sounded especially good.
Toed-in dramatically (pointed to either side of center seat), solid central vocals slightly ahead of speaker plane, sounds to edge of physical speaker periphery, as expected, nothing exaggerated. Full 8 ft width from speaker to speaker filled with balanced sound.
Pointed straight ahead? WHOA. Sounds extend 1 to 2 feet past the outside edges of the speaker cabinets. Get Back! was almost SDA-like.
Some vocals, wow, seriously... I like them better than on the 1C. Others, the 1C wins. Can't figure out the defining reason why there is a difference that makes a clear winner on one song or another artist.
These new observations are on the back-up amp, but they track with our thoughts for the composition of sounds and presentation on the other amps.
The last mods on the menu are:
- a little more mat on the mids
- foaming the inner baskets
- maybe a bracing dowel from front to back
So far, well worth all the time and every penny.
Been listening to a bunch of music, at volume, and it's amazing that this much sound comes out of a little 2-way. Blasting The Hu right now. Tasty.
Mods/upgrades to-date:
- silver wire
- new spades
- new terminals
- Clarity caps and Mundorf resistors
- light mat on mids
- mat on passives
- replaceable-uber-plugged mids with drilled pole pieces, courtesy of @xschop
- BH5, courtesy of @skipshot12
- Daytons and custom tweeter plates, a'la xschop and me
- removed polyswitch and fuse
- hurricane nuts and hex bolts
- custom craft foam gaskets
- @VR3 felt around tweeters
I think that's it. I think...
New plates and Daytons installed.
Room is 90% re-done and in order. Still have some stuff to put away and shelves to adjust, but getting there. The big room rearrange is on week 3.
New Bambu X1-C for business, but also for play

Looks like that nice wide throat profile is being achieved by the thicker plates. Great job.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.

Delivered to my Dad 2 weeks ago.
He's set up with an old, but capable, Yamaha and the SMSL D-6
The space they're in is tricky, but they sound better than anything he's ever owned (or heard, imo).
If I can afford to fix one of my Yamaha amps, I'll swap it in and use the D-6 for his pre (for now). And then, I think I'd take the spare 1C up and bring the 5(B) back as my secondary listening set. They're just that good.
Piper, Mom, Dad, and I had a great time over 2 nights, sharing music with each other.
