Keurig Coffee makers.

Hello everyone,
For may years , we have been using Keurig coffee makers. My family doesn't drink a lot of coffee, so the Keurig's are nice for those single cup uses.

Anyway I wanted to tell everyone how awful the Multi Stream Technology is. We use to use the single punch to pots machine with no issues. These Multi Stream machines suck. They break the seal on the top of the Pots and get Coffee grinds everywhere. They leak all over the place as the water doesn't go through the Pot as it should all the time.
I got one of these
https://www.keurig.com/K-Supreme-Plus®-Single-Serve-Coffee-Maker/p/K-Supreme-Plus-Single-Serve-Coffee-Maker:Silver_color
and I had nothing but problems with it. I called Keurig and they replaced it under warranty. Well the new machine also had issues, same ones and I didn't want another one so I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and purchased this one
https://www.keurig.com/Home-Coffee-Makers/Keurig®-K-Select®-Coffee-Maker/p/K-Select-Coffee-Maker:Matte%20Black_color
It works SO MUCH BETTER. It's simple, effective and just works as it should.

I have the K-Supreme-Plus model and it works for me. Is it worth the extra cost compared to a basic model? Probably not.

The thing demands to be connected via Wifi to the internet so Keurig can track what's used in it and send marketing emails. It does have a feature where someone can customize the brew to an extent to make it stronger or hotter. I consider it a gimmick since the coffee tastes the same regardless.

I have had to clean and descale mine with vinegar/water solution every few months. I can't complain about reliability on mine. One suggestion I picked up on was to immediately remove the K-cup after brewing so the grounds don't get jammed in the needles.

The approach Keurig has taken is similar to the ink jet printer business model. As in buy the printer and keep on paying for years on proprietary cartridges to make it work properly. The main thing the Keurig machine does is read the code on each K-cup so Keurig gets their licensing cut every time a cup of coffee is made in the machine. It's also how they market the machine by giving the user a few options on strength and temp.

I descaled it every few months, it tells you when and we keep the kit on hand. I even cleaned out the needle in the middle to make sure it was clear. We never leave a pot in place, always go to trash and it gets wiped out often under the hood.

The new one we got works perfectly, that Supreme was junk and we had 2 of them in less than a year. I didn't work on all different pots, the lids would rip off. I even tried seating the pot by hand before lowering the lid, still messed up.

Gawd, I so do not miss electric coffee pots.

A decade running a stove top percolator, the same one for all ten years, and I don't miss automatic drip or Keurig or anything else like it.

We have had a Cuisinart Keurig coffee maker for many years and with heavy use, especially when COVID hit and everyone was home. Flavor is very good for a K-cup machine.

That said, we also have a Mr Coffee Cafe Barista espresso maker. I much prefer the flavor of an Americano form this thing than the Keurig. I can make a single cup, doesn't take much more time to make, maybe a little more mess, and you can easily compost the grinds without wasting single use plastics. It also has held up very well under heavy use.

Agreed on the fresh ground beans; my Keurig has been sitting unused and collecting dust since a Breville grind and brew arrived here a few years ago.

I recall an interview of the Keurig/K-cup concept and he stated he regrets inventing it due to the pollution it contributes. Of course, I bet he feels real bad all the way to the bank.

I use the re-usable Keurig cup machine. Comes in handy making different flavors/grinds without any waste. Grinds go in the garden too.

The inventor sold out his stake in the company for $50K a few years after forming the company. Investors took over, gave him the boot, and then the company took off in the office supply arena. I think the cups are now mostly recyclable in theory. In practice I don't know of anyone who bothers.

I have three coffee brewers, a french press, and two Keurig machines. Most of the coffee in my house is from the Keurig, although it can't be denied french press is the best among those for taste. Too much waiting most days for the french press process to work. The Keurig is just an efficient caffeine delivery device.

I have the Supreme and it's finicky. I get the occasional coffee grinds but it's rare. Bigger issue is that I typically use distilled water to minimize scaling and the machine often thinks there's no water. To mitigate this I mix in about 20% spring water to the distilled. Second issue is that occasionally the water reservoir cover gets wet and makes a slight seal. When this happens the motor can't suck water out and I get very little coffee out. Took a bit to figure out why this happens.

Never saw these issues on older Kurigs.

The first time I did a descaling/cleaning cycle on mine I was a little shocked at the amount of junk it was kicking out for the first couple of cups. Cleaning regularly is a good recommendation even if it's just running some clean water through it.

We bought a Ninja coffee maker about a year ago after having two Kuerig’s. The Ninja will do both ground coffee and K-cups. We usually grind beans fresh, but having ground coffee and K-cups on hand for convenience is nice. My wife drinks herbal tea and this machine has a setting to dispense hot water, which is nice. Also has a built in frothed. We’ve been happy with it.

    Trial and error.

I finely grind Peru or Honduras medium rosted beans and only fill the filter cup half way. Perfect every time. Sometimes I add cinnamon or mint from the garden. Think Ill go start a grind now.🙂

Some of you might enjoy using an Aeropress. Faster than French press, no messy cleanup. I enjoy the ritual. It's like analog for coffee. Keurig is mp3 :oB)

My French press is glass and stainless not plastic so it's more of an audiophile grade tube integrated rather than a Circuit City Black Friday special AVR. ;)

I have a Keurig and I love it. I used to do French Press and I just no longer cared for the mess, time and fiddling with correct water temps and stale beans, etc.

I only drink coffee at home on the weekends and other days off as we have excellent coffee at work. I found even using various methods to preserve open whole beans, they always tasted stale the last 1/4 of a bag.

During COVID we got a Keurig machine at work. I always thought it was a gimmick and no way could it make a good cup of coffee like fresh beans in a French Press. I was wrong.

After experiencing it at work, I bought one for home and have never looked back. It makes a fresher more consistent cup of coffee than my French Press. All within 90 seconds and I can mix and match different kinds of coffee w/out having to buy an entire pound and then having it go stale.

I have a K- Select which has one more size setting as well as a "strong" setting. We use the same one at work. We have 15 employee's and it gets heavy use and has been flawless.

    I have zero regrets

They aren't all like that. I can use whatever pod I want in my K-Select, it doesn't have to be theirs as there is no scanning. Also how would they get their cut? Mine doesn't send info out and Green Mountain coffee is owned by Keurig, so they don't need a "cut".

On the Elite model full functionality requires an internet connection. It'll still work without being connected but it defaults to a standard setting like a regular machine if it can't see or recognize a QR code on an authorized pod. I think the Select version is a good choice. Maybe better for most people.

To start off, more than 95% of K-Cups are neither biodegradable nor recyclable. Not only are they made from a plastic that is only considered recyclable in a few cities in Canada, but the unrecyclable aluminum top is extremely difficult to remove. This means each and every single one of them is either put in a landfill or, even worse, littered into the environment. VS coffee grounds which my plants love....hhhhmmmm
