With Chicago, previously known as Chicago Transit Authority, there is with Kath, the soul, and without. Would they go on to produce so much banal pop if he were alive? Anyway, I love their cover of Spencer Davis Group I'm a man.

This one blows me away. First time I heard it, I remember thinking it was the first time I’d ever understood the lyrics to “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Also, I find Tori’s version much darker - which I like - a lot.

    Harry Nilsson.
Glad to see him mentioned above. Lennon & McCartney both said, at one point, that he was the best. Lennon & Nilsson got up to some hijinks in later years, of course. :(

Harry Nilsson certainly wrote some great songs, but some of his best-known songs were covers.

Early in his career, he did a full album of Randy Newman songs. Compare his version of Living Without You with Newman's, and see what you think.

    This one's actually a three-way :#
Manfred Mann did a fine cover version of this beautiful (and oh-so-sad) song, too. Quite a different vibe than the two above, though. ;)

... and if the title of that song seems familiar, stay tuned! :)

Probably (?) Nilsson's biggest hit was also a cover. The name of the song is almost the same as the one above, interestingly/ironically enough. :disappointed:

Early in his career, Nilsson also rather famously covered a Fred Neil song to good effect. :)

Sinead O'Connor's version of Sacrifice is indeed superb.

Sting (?!?!) ;) does a marvelous version of EJ's weird, atmospheric early song Come Down in Time on that same album (Two Rooms), too. :)

I've been listing to Blackberry Smoke a lot. They do a good cover of this Tom Petty song. Wonder Woman playing the violin makes it even better. :)

I went to see these guys in concert last month and they put on a great show. Didn't cost an arm and a leg either. Turn it up!

That Chris Cornell cover of Billie Jean was off the charts.

And I never new ONE was a cover by Three Dog Night, I enjoyed the original but my first thought was it sounds like the Beatles as well.

I love Three Dog Night, I grew up listening to them so they get this ONE for me.

"One" is one of those songs (pun intended) that has been covered many times
The actual original was wriiten and produced in 1968 by Harry Nilsson

Sorry (not sorry), but anything that Eva Cassidy covered (RIP) is better than the original...specifically for female vocals.

Hard to beat the original but the cover was definitely a worthy tribute!
