TV with eARC socket to Polk Magnifi Max SR ARC socket

So I bought a new TV (Samsung QE50Q60A) and it only has eARC socket. I connected it to the magnifi max sr, and sound goes through... BUT it's not Dolby Digital. I checked the sound menu, and there's no DD option, only Atmos. I can also hear it - the 5.1 is lost (all the speakers put sound at the same time, and in my old TV the sound moved around according to the scene. For example, in The Fugitive, there's a scene where the cops run around the house, and you can hear their footsteps moving from one speaker to the other. Now the sound is in all the speakers the same time).
I understand that Atmos tech is depended more on the speaker rather than on the TV. So my question is: if I connect this adapter, will it "fool" my tv to think that my magnifi max sr has eARC, and if I did, will it actually try it's best to fully use the surround (and also give me back my sweer DD?)

I'll pose this question to a friend at Polk.

What's the TV set to output now? Stereo only? That would explain why the sound is coming from the soundbar without surround effects now.

What about setting the TV to output "Atmos" to the soundbar from the eARC output to the HDMI input on the soundbar? Most content does not have Atmos height channels and Atmos is really just an extension of Dolby surround sound. Surround sound should still work fine. The Atmos channel(s) would either be downmixed or just not be present through the speaker. Since the soundbar was working fine before the new TV I'm thinking the TV setting is the issue. Also, eARC is just an extension of earlier ARC and is backwards compatible.

    Polk's response:

    "This adapter will not work.
He needs a sound bar system that can decode Dolby Atmos and has Atmos speakers built into the bar."

I'm adding a pic here. Sadly my system isn't in English, but I can promise you that the soundbar is connected (and selected) and here on the sound menu the output is set to "automatic" (second option being PCM) and I noticed the sound is surround... just not as it was on my previous tv. For example, I did watch Stranger Things and heard some of the effects from the back speakers. So I'm not sure exactly what my TV is doing. Also, the soundbar's led stays orange and doesn't change to green.
And I tried what you said - sadly no sound came out, but that was a brilliant suggestion. I think it's the TV's fault too, I'm not sure what to check though.

That's what I guessed. Thanks for your help!

Also I found this page for help. Seems Samsung nowadays isn't backward compatible with most soundbars. If there was just an adapter, or something that could translate Atmos to DD that would be great...

Good news, everyone! problem solved! and from a very surprising incident!
After a handyman had to shut-down my power (he had to re-install the lights) when he turned it back on, the DD returned!
So my tip for anybody in this situation:
    1. Reset your soundbar, it might fix itself.
    2. Shut-down all your home power all at once, and then try. It might as well work.

I wanted to edit my last comment, but I can't for some reason.

Re-posting for the last time (for realsies this time)
It seemed that at least once a day I had to disconnect my soundbar from the power socket for me to get my Dolby Digital back. Strange. I searched online and found this on Samsung's website. It seems to be an update thing, and they're aware of the problem. So, in the meanwhile, beside waiting for the update, here's my more stable solution:
    1. I disconnected my soundbar (Polk Audio MagniFi MAX SR) from the TV's eARC port (and just in case, disconnected the cable from the soundbar itself).
    2. I connected the soundbar via optic cable, and in the settings menu, chose optics. Just for comfort, I configured the TV's remote to control the soundbar as well (for those who have Samsung 2021+ model, I'll gladly explain how).
    3. Now everything works smoothly! After 5 min of non-activity the soundbar turns itself off, but I found a solution for it. But I prefer it that way.

    Hope this helps anyone!

  • Same problem with my LG 75QNED90.
Once, the led turned green when I was on Netflix with eArc.
So I understood that this could happen.
Then I reset the TV, but it didn't happen again.
So I used a digital link and the led turned green.
Unfortunately, it still does not work with eArc, because eArc provides more than the digital link.
