ok. i'll check it out. i can't detect any .1 track at all. but i will check again. we're the only ones keeping this thread alive.

and i have to disagree with you again Rocky. i think the audio is quite good.

what does your system consist of? speakers, amp, receiver, etc.

    thanks, al

my system is RT800i's bi wired fronts
    CS400i center bi wired
    F/X300i's rears
    SVS 20-39PCI sub

coming from a Marantz SR5000 with external Marantz MA500 mono block amps, and a Adcom 5400 for the fronts.

I gotta say buddy.. the track has pretty decent bass coming from the front towers in my system. Set your fronts to large and see if that increases the bass, it does for me.

    peace

Lets keep beating this dead horse till it's toast. :p

agreed! this .1 or subwoofer track is there.. albiet muddy and very low. I had to boost the output of the sub to +4 for decent output finally.

I spent about 20 minutes calibrating my HT system and the Heart Live in Seattle music DVD still sounds wonderful to me.

Without boosting the sub freq, it will sound like a tin can... or Bose. Waaaaaaa!

I spent about 40 mins listening to the DVD again. It has both a DD and DTS as well as 2 ch tracks. I found the DD track to be the most pleasing... with the DTS second. and the 2 ch. truely bad sounding.

Rocky, maybe we're just two different to be able to agree on if this disc sounds good or not. I have to say i'm pleased with the sound. It has good dynamics in the upper frequencies, so so on the mids, and the front lows, are well almost not there. BUT, pump up your sub. and it makes for a very listenable live concert. IMHO anyway.

I'm sticking with pq at 7, and sound quality at 5

I'll see if Shizelbs can come over.. he'll be a neutral person here. He's got a much better tuned ear than i have.

Picked up the Zeppelin DVD. I agree its a killer DVD for $22. Some scenes that I have never seen before in there. Gotta love Jimmy Page with that double thingy guitar. Disk I is very impressive. The "dazed and confused" guitar solo with the violin bow and Jimmy Page was incredible. Then there is the famous drum solo on "moby dick." These guys must have been awesome to see live in person.

The Pink Floyd "Live at Pompeii" wasn't what I was expecting. More like a collection of different weird scenes where they look totally wasted at time. Weird stuff... but its Floyd.

Heiney, glad to see you like Jewel too. I picked up her "Humphrey's" DVD based on your recommendation. I kind of prefer her voice in the additional tracks songs; seems like she was doing something at a higher pitch during the concert. Man I was mesmerized by what she was wearing. I thought them ta ta's were going to bust on out. LOL..

I want to check out a Fleetwood Mac DVD next.

danger boy, I know I haven't posted here for a while, but I have been busy. My system is strictly low-fi, Sony electronics and large, full range KLH speakers in all 4 corners augmneted by a POLK sub (PSW 505) and a POLK center. But the point is that I have a lot of discs that rate a 10 on this system, so the whole rateing scale is relative to my system.

I have Jewel LIVE AT HUMPHREYS. This disc is awesome, her performane was great and I love how her vocals sound throughout. Also, I just picked up something completely different, Bob Marley LIVE AT THE SANTA BARBARA COUNTY BOWL. This disc was very well filmed and the sonics are simply stunning giving the outdoor venue.
Of course for a great live performance of a real rocking female check out Sheryl Crow C'MON AMERICA. Her performance is fantastic and the disc rocks. Also, I highly recommend THE LAST WALTZ. This DVD set has all the big names in rock & roll history performing altogether. Great stuff.

Alot of my favorites have already been mentioned (Led Zep, Sade, Diana Krall).

Another one I like is Foo Fighters, Everywhere But Home. If you like this kind of stuff this is a great disc. Lots of bonus stuff (including audio only of a second entire show), solid 5.1 sound (DD only), excellent performances by the band. It never fails to get my 2 year old jumpin' all over the room playing air guitar. Don't know where he gets that.
    system 1:
Athena: AS-F1 mains, AS-C1 center, AS-B1 surrounds, AS-P400 sub, Yammie RXV-730, Rotel RB-976 driving front stage, Samsung BD3600 Blue Ray, Denon DVD2900 for sacd/cd , jbl n24awII on the deck, samsung 40" 1080p lcd

    system 2:
XBox 360 Spherex 5.1 system, HK DVD38, Phillips CDC 926 CD changer, Phillips 32" LCD

    2 channel
NAD 1600 pre, NAD 2400 THX amp, Phillips CDC 926, Linn extra speaks, crappy TT

Foo Fighters, I love the Foo Fighters. Thanks for recommendation, I am going to have to check that one out.

There is one other one that I forgot to mention. QUEEN WE WILL ROCK YOU. This disc is the only THX certified concert DVD that I own, and it really kicks serious butt. You had better TIE YOUR MOTHER DOWN because the THX certified audio deffinately shakes the whole house. In fact, GET DOWN MAKE LOVE will actually have the neighbors coming over and asking if you have a live band playing in your garage. Great disc.

Genesis - The Way We Walk

Phil Collins' last tour with Genesis. He did sit down with Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks to do the commentaries, although you can hardly understand what the heck they were talking about. Multi-angle and 5.1 surround sound. Excellent transfer.

Genesis - Live At Wembley Stadium

Another Genesis concert video, shot in mid 80s. Remastered in 5.1 surround.

    Toto - Live In Amsterdam

Get past their soft rock image and check out this live concert. These guys are all top-notch musicians....the band that backup Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

I rented Heart Live In Seattle and thought it was AWESOME on my 12 foot screen. The sound was really good. Thier WAS a LFE channel even though it reads 5.0 on the DVD. My local rental store wanted $30 for it - just arrived from Ebay for $18.50. Can't wait to here it with my new SVS.
    Don Henley
    Korn Live
    Opeth
Depeche Mode In Paris - VHS
The Cure - HD - Rental
Portishead - Would love to HEAR the DVD but only have the VHS.
You guys should really check Portishead LIVE its worth it.

    Thank you!

I've been saying this all along. the sound is quite good.. LFE channel is there but pretty low. gotta pump up the volume on the bass channel. I also thought the picture quality as i mentioned a few times earlier is quite good. looking near HD quality in some scene.

Hey Rocky.. did you read scottvamp's post? ;)

still one of the better concert DVD's out there.

Matchbox 20 just put out a live DVD. Pretty steep at $28 + tax.
Give a shout if you have heard this dvd - really interested in the sound quality.
I have most of thier CD's but ""yourself or someone like you"" is like a freak of nature to the rest. The sound quality is excellent and is one of my favorite CD Demo's. Now if I can only find it......

I have about 70 music DVDs because me and my wife feel that adding the video portion to a musical performance adds a dimension that makes the experience more tangible. I think that every music lover would really enjoy THE MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL on DVD. It is a Criterion edition, 3 DVD boxset with extensive liner notes. The video transfer from the original film stock was done meticulously, and the audio has been digitally remastered in 5.1 DTS by Eddie Kramer, Jimi Hendrix's original soundboard engineer. The entire film is restored to a lusterous image, and the additional discs contain many fine performances that were deleted from the original film. Because it is a Criterion Edition, the supply is limited to the first pressing, so it is a very limited edition DVD boxset. I got my copy 2 years ago and I still watch it regularly. Amazon.com has it right now for the very reasonable price of $65, and everyone should buy a copy because Criterion DVDs always get deleted quickly and go up in value later.

Picked up a couple more today. The first one is Fleetwood Mac "Tango in the night". It was cheap and worth a shot but it looks like it doesn't have DTS or DD so that kind of sucks. A lot of older footage and audio is probably a "4" or a "5" at best.

I also picked up the Sheryl Crow DVD, but I got the wrong one. Couldn't remember which one to get. I got the "Rockin the Globe Live" DVD. It has DD and DTS and sounds like a solid "8". She is a talented musician. Not only does she sing on most songs, but she also plays electric guitar, bass on another song, and acoustic guitar with the harmonica strapped to her neck on another song. Will definitely pick up "C'mon America" next go around.

Oh, yes, they were amazing! Actually got the used bow from Jimmy Page post concert. Very cool.

gmorris, funny, I just listened to that last night!

Jeff Buckley : Live in Chicago
What can I say? He was great, his band was great! I love this dvd, but sometimes it bums me out cause he's no longer here.

    Radiohead: Meeting People is Easy
This is a very busy dvd, a bit dizzy, a bit noisy, but for some reason I really like it.

Dead Can Dance: Toward the Within
A bit artsy-fartsy for some. Being a fan of Cocteau Twins, DCD, and This Mortal Coil, this dvd fits the bill.

    Coldplay: Live 2003
This one is a no-brainer. It came with the cd. I love it! Even the odd dance!

I picked up the Matchbox 20 Live for a whopping $28 and the sound is not good. Acoustics were fair, the crowd was WAY TOO LOUD and hardley any LFE at all. Big dissapointment on this one.
