If I may ask, is there a reason for the Input Level controls (2 far right knobs) to be at the 12 o'clock position and not fully rotated clockwise . . . so that they are completely out of the signal path.

Obviously, they serve a purpose. but, I think most would benefit from full CW rotation ... improved SQ

Source Lumin U1 Mini into Lampizator Baltic 4 DAC
    Pre Cary SLP-05
    Power Rogue M180 Dark monos
    Mains Salk HT2-TL

I just ordered a pair. Now for the long wait……

Good afternoon to you. How long of a wait, if you don't mind me asking?

Also, what is the height of the tube from the bottom of the base to the top of the tube (if you know)?

    Tom
    Hi Tom,
If my memory is functioning,I think under 2 weeks coming from China. I currently have 2 pair. Both ordered from the same EBay vendor, both are well broke in,both sound great with my Aric Audio Motherlode II pre.
I see the dimensions have already been posted. They are on the large side.

See my profile for list of gear.

    12 o’clock is fully rotated..

Interesting… it’s definitely a cleaner look than the older style. It was a little confusing at first because I assumed 12 o’clock was the “proper/best” position ….
then I tried fully rotated clockwise… Much better.

I would be interested in hearing your impressions as well as you learn the strengths and weakness of the Linlai tubes.

I also have the SLP-05 and after a significant DAC upgrade this winter I am now in the position of deciding whether to upgrade from the EH stock tubes that came with the Cary, or just run direct into the amp and sell the pre. Removing the pre from the signal path unveils the whole frequency range, not in a huge way but it is noticeable and I prefer the cleaner presentation. While there is some added warmth and increased size of presentation with the pre, I can't unhear the distortion now either. :#

Where would you place the Linlai's in terms of tube warmth, clean and accurate presentation, and prat? Are they fairly neutral or do they have a noticeable character?

Thanks for your time and the pic, they definitely are big globes! Very Splashy...

I have a friend who did just that and he regrets it. (Losing the Cary pre and going direct to amp) FWIW.

Appreciate the input Tom. I agree it isn't a decision to take lightly.

If you are only running one source I dont see the benefit of a preamp.
