Primaluna stuff looks better without the cage. Speaking of, they don't get much love around these parts and I'm kinda wondering why.

Kevin Deal. Never met in person but have watched a few of his videos. Can't stand him and whatever he is hawking is an instant turn off. Not that I'm likely to be his target customer anyway.

Yes, i have to admit, the fact they are the US distributor is a huge turn off.

I have yet to find a dealer that has a favorable view of PL gear. The stuff I have heard was just so-so... but that could be due to lack of proper setup anbd pairing with other gear.

I don't even know anyone who owns a Primaluna anything. Wouldn't mind getting my ears on a unit.

What are your impressions of it, if you don't mind me asking?

I like it best paired with a tube preamp. When combined with a solid state preamp there is occasional midrange brightness and less tube glory.

All tube (heard it with matching PL Prologue 3 preamp), there was incredible tube magic, particularly with stringed instruments and horns. There was also a humanity, or realness to the sound; some might say organic. One can hear a cellist breathing in a way that subjectively seems more prominent and in the room. Soundstaging was also excellent, with a lot of body to the performers/instruments.

I felt timing was a bit slowed with this pairing. Also a bit of high frequency roll-off but not extreme. Bass was very textured and detailed, however. Overall presentation a little less transparent than I want from a daily driver, but when one wants a different musical flavor this pairing definitely brings it.

Those timing issues are taken care of in the newer models. They get fantastic reviews from customers, and they aren't cheap either. Seem to hold value as well....like most tube gear does these days. I'm just surprised not many have at least tried them given the amount of tube guys in here.

Yeah I like the amp a lot. My journey currently seems to be pushing me in the direction of tube pre/solid-state amp combos.

I’m hoping to get my McIntosh C8 preamp soon so I can try it with the PL Prologue 5.

It seems I may have to wait until 09/2022, though. 😬
