Marantz (NR 1200), Apple TV and HDR

Just bought and setup a Marantz NR 1200. Set up an Apple TV 4K. In my previous setup, my Apple TV was directly connected to my TV. In the previous setup I could get HDR @ 60MHZ

Now that am running everything thru the Marantz, I am only getting SDR. I have the same issue on my main AVR Marantz SR 5011 in my living room.

Any ideas? All firmware is up to date. HMDI is 4K or 8K rated. Thank you

Make sure your receiver is in enhanced mode on the Video output.
Also some TVs need the input settings changed to an enhanced mode. It sometimes is hidden well. It’s set this way to get the energy star rating approved.
When hooked directly to the tv this mode will sometimes get automatically turned on I have seen this issue before when adding a receiver in the mix.

  • Thanks, that helped and I’ve solved my problem.

Quick note, I switched my Apple TV to the HDMI 1 slot and it automatically went to 4K HDR. My direct box does not need that, so it is fine in HDMI 2 slot. Not sure if the HDMI slots are any different 🤷‍♂️ But it worked

Yes apparently many avrs are like that. I had a heck of a time getting my Denon 4200w to pass HDR through the Apple TV, and I finally figured out that the only 2.2 hdr hdmi inputs are the ones next to the outputs. Once I switched, bingo! Would be nice if they would clearly mark the HDR inputs…
