Sound issues

Options
My Polk Audio Magnifi Max SR sound bar has issues with the sound being muffled during comercials on certain channels. When comercial is over it goes back to normal. Was very frustrating during the super bowl as were unable to hear any of the comercials, seams to be worst on ABC, CBS and NBC. I am unable to connect to wifi through the Google home app to try and update firmware so was wondering the next step. Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

The muffled issue is typically a device (anything from the TV itself or a device like a set top box or game system) sending a 5.1 signal at all times rather than a "passthrough" signal. So basically what happens is that some commercials or shows are only actually 2.0 channel and therefore missing data for the center channel (and surround channels). Check your TV and set top box settings and look for an AUTO setting or PASSTHROUGH setting. An alternative solution is forcing your set top box and/or TV to always output PCM.

Good answer. It makes no sense to think a speaker muffles commercials, but that would be a nice feature. :)
